I am looking for a good, reasonable motorcycle mechanic close to the CBD
    that can issue a roadworthy.

    TIA

Don't go to a bike mechanic, he'll find what's wrong with it, go to a
car mechanic who will only be capable of checking the tyres aren't bald
    and the blinkers work

Can I really do this? I was told I had to see a motorcycle mechanic for the
roadworthy by the guy that I bought the bike from. I would also like to know
of a good motorcycle mechanic close to the Melbourne CBD for repairs and
    service as well.

  4. Not sure about Vic regs, but in NSW (JL is here too), any authorised
inspection station can do bikes, whether it's a bike shop or a car workshop.
What John says is right though, car mechanics are often ignorant of
motorcycle specific unroadworthy issues, mine just checks tyres, lights, the
odometer and the compliance plate (needs the month/year for the pinkslip).
Overall condition does help though, if it looks like a piece of shit with
bits tied on, taped on and/or falling off, they'll probably check every
little thing, if it looks cared for when you arrive they often check less.

Yes, you can. Not all RWC places can do bikes, but lots can.
Engine Fit in Nicholson St. does.

Well you can in NSW, and I didn't notice the melb in the subject line
until you put it in the body just then. Dunno about Vic

In Victoria a Roadworthy Testing station can be licenced as LV (Light
Vehicles) which means they can't do bikes or General (can't remember the
letters) but means they can do the lot (there's also a truck only one I
    think).

    For future reference...

....should something need doing to the bike, whether routine or as a
result of something going pop, run it by here first.

For the price of having the piss taken out of you a bit, you get to save
yourself some money and learn about your bike into the bargain.

No, no, you've got to understand this Usenet thing ... the correct
    response is:

Is that the Nicholson St. in Perth or Darwin?

    -----sharks (yes, quite good, thanks)

Will do, thanks. BTW I was looking for Engine Fit that sharkey suggested and
also found a Triumph place that is closer to my place on the corner of Lygon
and Edward streets. It has a sign saying they do RWC's.

  14. What does this exercise cost you each time? Same for a car?

  15. Car inspection costs more than a bike, I think a car inspection is $23 each
    time.

That's all well and good, but do they do NSW RWCs, or Vic ones?

Not sure, I ended up dropping past Garners in the city to get a lense for my
helmet on the way and noticed they did Vic RWC so I paid my $55 and watched
my new baby pass without any defects pointed out.
