  1. I'm heading there next week and need a new winter jacket. Any
    suggestions? Elizibeth street?

Yeah Eliz St only cos they are all put close together (that's a Melb thing
    for other retailers as well).

For leather there is the old green Mars shop - still wear a 25yr old jacket
    from them.

In the mezzanine above Peter Stevens they have most of the synthetics - I
kinda like the Dainese winter jackets (not cheap but good).

I'm not from there but Melb is a good place to shop - if you were short you
could jot down the model no and size and then going shopping on the net
might save you a $ (but leave you cold on the way home).

Occasionally some interesting bikes on the parked on the pavement - another
    good Melb idea.

Apart from all those good things, the weather sucks though ...

If you prefer an alternative to the CBD then try Ringwood as there are
several largish bike shops close together there also.

  4. Definitely going a synthetic. I'm thinking the dri-rider with the built
in hydration pack. I am planning a load of big trips this year and I
    think it will be perfect.

If you are coming in from the west or north try

    All Motorcycle Accessories
8/ 31 Keilor Park Drv, Keilor Park VIC 3042
    ph: (03) 9331 5050
    Melway map 15 B7

    Good prices on reasonable gear.

  6. Thanks for that. I am coming in pretty late at night then staying in
the eastern suburbs. Looks like a trip into ringwood might be my best bet.

  7. Cool. My brother lives in Ringwood North so it might be easier than
    screwing around going into town.

    ...and some small ones too.
So do both. Get on the train in Ringwood and get off at Melbourne
Central station. The exit of the station is right in the middle of the
Elizabeth St bike shop precinct. You'll probably find more range of
gear in Elizabeth St, particularly in Peter Stevens, however you'll
probably do a better deal on price at somewhere like Bikemart in
    Ringwood for comparable stuff.

AMX have another store in Bayswater, which isn't too far from Ringwood,
however, from one brief visit to their Keilor Park store, they have lots
of dirt bike gear and not so much road gear, and not a huge range of
brands, and not really many of the more well known / big name brands.

  10. Cheers for that. I'm looking forward to going for a ride in the
mountains while I'm there. Going to need a warm jacket.

The time I went in they had, I would guess 30-50 rack-meters of road
oriented jackets and pants, with several known brands including
DriRider and RJays (sorry I can't remember them all, getting old...).

I bought a pair of RJays winter gloves there, mmmm warm fingers (or
at least they are less cold than before).
