(Melb) Stupid me! Abus lock stolen

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Dave Milligan, Oct 13, 2003.

  1. Hi all,

Saturday morning around midday sees me parking the Kwak in Elizabeth
St outside Bike Barn near Peter Stevens. Had my 1 metre Abus chain
locking gadget sitting on the back seat and over the Ventura pack
frame - it's actually been there for a week cos the bike was mostly
sitting in the garage at home - anyway I wandered off to look at
various bikes - as you do in Elizabeth St without using the lock on my
bike. I was only going to be a few minutes so didn't bother to wrap
the locking chain around my back wheel as I normally would anywhere
else especially if I was going to be a while.

10 minutes later I arrived back at my bike jumped on and rode off. It
wasn't till I got home that I realised it was missing. Looked all over
the garage just in case it wasn't actually on the bike when I left
home, but I've come to the conclusion that someone stole it when I was
    in Peter Stevens.

It's locked and no use to anyone as with Abus locks they come with
special keys which need a special code to get a new key. The dumb
cluck who stole it won't be able to use it for anything other than a
wall ornament because I have the card with the code to order a new
key. But maybe he/she don't know that yet.

Stupid me for thinking no one would steal something like that locked
and no use. Next time (if I ever get it back, or buy a new one) I will
either use it and lock the bike or at least lock it through the pack
rack so it can't be easily removed.

    Kind regards
    Dave Milligan (OTC)

Well, unless he's talking about one of those snake thingummies
where the lock is built into the chain.

  4. No, the Blue & Black ZRX1200 which was actually parked on the road
    beside a CX500 cafe racer. Now there's a bike.

    kind regards

  5. It was the chain model with the built in locking devive. Called an
    Abus City Lock I think.

Absolutely no use to anyone now because I have the keys and key code
and no locksmith will hand over keys without the code.

    Kind regards

I was in Melbourne last week with the family and drove right past all the
bike shops in Elizabeth street.....wow - do you guys know how spoilt you
are. It looked fantastic all the bikes lined up on the footpath......

plenty of bikes shooting around the city as well...good on 'youze' all!!

BTW - I couriered in Sydney for 6 years and always planted the 'Shoei' on
the wing mirror - never lost it until I did the same out of habit in Kings
Cross kipping over a mates place overnight!!

That's Melbourne for ya! Elizabeth Street is great for those into computers,
digital cameras motorcycles and the like; i.e. one of my favourite streets.
He, that's a good deal - after 6 years it'd probably be up for replacement
    anyway :)

I could have sworn Al's is red, and it's Black Maggot that has the blueish one (well, blue bits
    anyway).
