The edges of my nice new tyres are looking just a little sad after 8000k of
flat, straight roads between here and Perth. They are jealous of the
centres. They saw some nice action at Horrocks (sp?) pass and the Germaine
    Gorge, but they want more.

The Toy run on Sunday doesn't look like it will help much.

    I'm thinking:
Diamond Creek at 9.am (Maccas Carpark)
Then via Wattle Glen and Kangaroo Ground to Yarra Glen. Old Healesville Rd
to Healesville(!). then via Launching Place to the Warrandyte rd, Yarra
    Junction, Powelltown, Noojee.

Willow Grove, Trafalgar and Mirboo North.
Return via Leongatha, Korumburra and maybe Wonthaggi, Dalyston, Archies
Creek and Loch, Poowong, Nyora, Lang Lang, Tooradin and back along the Sth
    Gippy Hwy and M1.

Breaks possible at Healesville, Noojee, Mirboo North, Korumburra, Loch (nice
little coffee shop) and Tooradin. Lunch somewhere.

Not very many straight bits of road in there.

Some of the early roads are 80k limit. but I still find then interesting.

I don't intend doing any outlandish speeds, just swingin' through the bends.
Faster riders can always wait. Slower riders will always be waited for.

None of these roads are terribly 'technical' but some of them (e.g.
Dalyston - Loch) will bite is treated with disrespect.

This route is not recommended for very inexperienced riders.

There are reasonable 'exit points' for early finishers at Trafalgar and
    Korumburra.

Alternative start/join points would be Yarra Glen, (~9.30) Healesville
(~9.45) Yarra Junction (~10.15) but if I don't know you are there I won't be
    looking for you.

    Anyone interested?

(Real sad when you reply to your own posts)
I guess no one is interested in a Saturday ride.
Weather looks like it might be a bit shitty.

I'll still wander off tomorrow, but if the roads are wet, the schedule
    and route will be different.

Bureau says rain on and south of the ranges, so a run up through Tolmie
    might be in order.

Tolmie is a tiny hamlet in the middle of a lovely bike road between
Mansfield and Whitfield. Only shortcoming of that trip is the road to
    Mansfield. (flat, straight)

Looking at the weather now, I'm going to revert to my first suggestion,
    through the hills to Gippsland.

Should take me until about 10.30 to get to Yarra Junction.

  10. I was there on Friday and Monday! What's with the
hazardous-slippery-dirtbike-doing-a-wheelie sign on the way up/southbound
to the don't-watch-the-power-lines-watch-the-road corner? If they had've
had a trike-going-sideways one I would've been much more prepared!

    Hi Pete.

That was a perfectly safe and interesting road until they sealed the
last 7k and let the sportsbikes through. Then it became hazardous for
    motorcycles. ;-)

It would build up the biceps piloting a trike through there.

    Fun but.

In the end, I went down to Mirboo North. Via Noojee and Mt Baw Baw.

    About 400k, 75% twisty.

    Hi Pete,

I'm just waiting on new tyres for the Nomad. For some reason after the
8000km of relatively straight roads, they have squared off! Wish I'd
    known you were down here!

    Cheers

  14. Lucky the Eildon - Jamieson road is still safe then. I only saw one car
and a Wedgetail parked in the middle of the road. My arms were burning but
every corner was perfectly matched to my gearing. Bliss!

It was a fleeting visit, Goaty. Sharkey was kind enough to give me an
excuse to ride the high country, get pissed, and ride back again.

What, there's some kind of Noisiest Lurker Award up for grabs?

  18. Shouldn't that be 'Car-Rolla Pat' and 'every day is a challenge for your
    Postie Bike'!
