[Melb] Kyneton Ride - 29/5/05 - report and photos

  1. I arrived at the Todd Road servo meeting point to find about 25
bikes and riders had ignored the weather forecast, determined to
enjoy a ride on the last official weekend before the start of
    Winter.

And they were rewarded with a great ride, sunny for the most part
and not a drop of rain all day.

First stop was the Bulla car park across from Tullamarine airport
and George wasn't sure if he should believe us that planes really
got that low as they fly overhead to land. A few minutes later he
    was no longer a sceptic.

Next stop, Lancefield, a fuel stop for some, a chance to stretch the
    legs and/or smoko for others.

I wandered into the local pub, which inside strangely looks more
like an art gallery than a place to drink, and found their first
floor veranda was a great place to take a shot at the ride group
down below on the street. I didn't have a rifle so I took a photo
    instead. :)

After another regrouping stop we arrived at the destination park in
Kyneton. There we found the ever hard working Dale Maggs preparing
the barby to the sound of one of my favourite tunes (Everybody's
Talkin' by Harry Nilsson) blasting from his ute.

The snags hit the spot nicely but perhaps Shane knows more about
Dale's cooking than the rest of us. Coz he shunned the bangers and
went and bought fish and chips. :) The rest of us will probably know
    by 3:00am this morning.

After the food, drinks and some lounging around the picnic area it
was off to our next destination, the Royal Enfield motorcycle
    factory also in Kyneton.

There we were greeted by owner Graham, who showed us around his
factory (the bikes come in semi-knocked down form from India) who
patiently answered questions fired at him about these interesting
bikes he imports and distributes Australia wide.

When Graham kindly offered test rides I expected he'd be knocked
over in the rush but surprisingly I was the only one to take him up.

So with the fearless AJ perched on the back as pillion we took off
on a blue Bullet 65 for a quick spin around the countryside. My
verdict? Not bad at all. I must say that what this bike lacks in
power (and brakes) it more than makes up in character.

By this time of the day a few of us were pining for a caffeine fix
so it was agreed we head back to Melbourne with a leisurely stopover
    in Woodend for coffee.

This time it was the coffee that hit the spot very VERY nicely.
Though the mystery of the missing nose on Micks pink meringue pig
    will probably never be solved.

With the obligatory "now how will your pig smell?" joke out of the
way and after Anton began singing outside the bakery it was decided
that now would be a good time to call a conclusion to what was a
    good day had by all.

So for the last time we head off as a group back to the big smoke.

Thanks to all participants for helping make this an enjoyable day.

    cheers
    Tony

Heh - I'd love to have a spin on one of those. Sounds like a good day.
