I'm needing to get a RWC done on a bike i am about to purchase, due to
work restrictions its going to be difficult to organise transport to/from
the mechanics and work. Its only an inspection so a u-beaut mechanic isnt
required, just someone who is qualified to issue certificates. They need
to be open on the weekends and not be required to book 3+ days in advance.

    Regards,
    Derek

No u-beaut mechanic? Why not go to a nearby car place that issues RWC - they
too are allowed to do RWC's on bikes and FWIW I hear they usually go a
little easier on bikes 'cos of little knowledge :)

I actually called a few car mechanics and they said they dont do them. Not
sure if thats a legal requirement or a personal preference but the two i
called said they didnt do it.

I should probably add, south east/east melbourne preferred.

A search of www.yellowpages.com.au came up with nothing in the way of bike
    mechanics.

Not all of them any more: the gummint split the RWC licensing
classes, so that they have to pay extra per class.

Some still do, my fave being: Engine Fit, Nicholson St,
    Coburg.
Generally they play by the rules ... the rules are surprisingly
slack in some areas, and surprisingly strict in others.

Here in NSW, they do, apparently. My little bro does common-or-
garden car roadworthys on cars in NSW (common as in he doesn't
do any of the trick 'additional' qualifications like gas or
trucks or blue slips), and he gets (and does) the occasional
    bike.

ACK that things might well be completely different south
    of the border...

Spares and repairs in Whitehorse Rd Box Hill is open Sat AM, he's just up
from Mick Hone Suzi. As for booking ahead, you'd have to ring and find out.

Testers are licensed nowadays for certain classes of vehicles (and have to
pay fees according to the classes they can inspect).
Since bikes are a small-volume item to most car-joints, many have dropped
those testing-licenses and don't do bikes anymore.

To find a "car-guy" doing bikes is getting harder and harder, those
remaining start charging the same fees as the bike dealers (at least they
don't try to " create some turn-over" out of their inspections).
To find someone open over the weekends will be one of those Mission
    Impossible jobs.
Even the workshop staff of bike dealers is off on the weekends, even if the
retail-section of the dealer might be open (like Clipstone in R'wood).

    cheers

  11. Wing me an email, I can give you a name and number for a mechanic in
the Scoresby area if that's any use? I use him as a matter of course.
