DFW Chapter of TMRA II is meeting tomorrow night.. Wednesday at 7:00 PM..
The VFW hall at 300 Smith St. in Dallas is the place..

I'm not real certain about what is on the agenda this month, but with all
the action in Austin during this Legislature Session, I'm sure that this
meeting will be a lively one..

As usual .. Elmer McKeegan will chair and it's for sure that we'll be
discussing and cussing the Television Access programming that we've been
    looking into..

Two of our Sisters in the Chapter have contacts and live in Dallas.. They
should have a report for us.. One of the ladies in Plano who is a Public
Access Television producer or director will be attending, if she can arrange
    it..

With all that going on and the legislature in Austin, this meeting should be
lively and informative.. See you all .. there..

    HB 3203

    A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

    AN ACT

relating to the operation of a motorcycle on which a young person is a
    passenger.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 545.416, Transportation Code, is amended
by adding Subsections (d) and (e) to read as follows:
    (d) Except as provided by Subsection (e), the operator of a
motorcycle may not carry as a passenger a person who is younger than
15 years of age, and a person younger than 15 may not ride as a
passenger on a motorcycle being operated by another, unless the
person's feet rest firmly on passenger foot pegs that are attached
    to the motorcycle.
    (e) Subsection (d) does not apply to:
    (1) a motorcycle that is being operated in a residence district at a
speed that is less than 20 miles per hour; or
    (2) a passenger who is seated in a sidecar attached to the motorcycle.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2005.

Now the agreement with Arlington ABATE was to reduce the age limit to 10
instead of 15. Although I still comply with the law, I just don't agree with
making a law out of everything that comes along.

Well, at least there's no provision for a sanctioned LEO stop to check the
age of the riders, altho that won't stop a bunch from doing it anyway.

Hell, I feel with enough bungie cords or duct tape it doesn't matter the age
or *where* you put the kids.

Thanks Elmer.. With all due respect for the good brothers and sister at
ABATE, I'll have to sit this one out.. Maybe, this one will die on the vine,
so to speak.. The small ones who've lived in my neighborhood enjoy coming
around to "grandpa's" corner to take a little spin around the block.. I
enjoy taking them for that little spin.. I've got grandkids of my own, and I
get a tremendous kick out of watching their pleasure while they ride with
me.. Each one of these younguns' have become enthusiastic enough to want and
receive their own helmet for their birthday or Christmas..

There is the future bikers that will take our place when it's time for us
    all to hang it up..

There is no way that I'll support this Bill.. Again .. with all due respect
for the good brothers and sisters of ABATE, I hope this one goes away.. I
don't even want to hear the arguments in favor of this Bill..

It is commendable, to me .. that TMRA II has assumed the "hands off"
position.. I encourage all the members of TMRA II to assume that position..
Hopefully.. this isn't a serious issue with ABATE and they will just allow
this one to die before it is considered at our Capitol..

All that being said, I continue in my support of our good friends at ABATE
... Those good brothers and sisters have always rallied, when TMRA II has
been pressed for support.. Our mutual issues have been many and some would
not have been successful without our mutual cooperation and support for each
other's causes.. My support for ABATE is as enthusiastic as ever.. But.. on
this one, I've got to bow out..

BTW.. Elmer.. great meeting last night.. It was good to see you and all
those that did show up.. Small .. but enthusiastic meetings like this one,
is good, once in a while.. Good job.. I must admit, that I sure missed the
ones who couldn't make it last night .. The good friend who made the
decision to join TMRA II, last night is certainly welcome.. and I'm sure,
knowing him as I do.. he'll be an asset to the fellowship and brotherhood
that TMRA II represents to us all.. Good to have you aboard, my fine friend
and brother.. See you next week at the Tarrant County Chapter meeting..

    Hello,

I remember around 1982 to 84, a young family with 2 under ten children that
rode M/Cs nearly all the time.

They did have a car that they used during wet and icy weather.

As I remember it, they had built two seats that were attached to the back
rests on the bikes. they strapped the children into the seats. The children
had good well fitting helmets also. It seemed to be working well for them.

I think that they both had Silverwings.

I have seen after market universal foot pegs that are fully adjustable. That
is they can be installed nearly anywhere for persons with shorter legs to
    use on an M/C.

I think that ABATE has gotten into something that will cause them some
    support in the future.

Your response to this post is a little confusing to say the least.. What do
you mean.. "cause them some support"..

LOL.. Actually.. doesn't make a great deal of difference, anyway.. The
support that is required for the failure or success of any Bill has to be a
participation.. Over the years, your participation has been limited to an
occasional comment like the one you just made, on a newsgroup..

Many thanks for comment, even though I am still trying to figure out what it
means.. Due to you past performances, I'll assume it is negative, until you
are able to articulate something more meaningful..

Well dang.. bubba.. I didn't realize that you were such an enthusiastic
supporter of them, in the first place... LOL..
See there.. just goes to show you, how wrong a guy could be.. Next thing we
know, TMRA II will be losing your support.. no doubt.. Sheesh.. one of these
days, you might even stop going to all them danged old meetin's those folks
    have..

What's next.. ? Undoubtedly.. you will stop payment on that check you
wrote for each organization and will refuse to participate at the Capitol
when they meet down there to consider the legislation that is being passed
... Damn.. I'm totally crushed.. Ah well cie la vie..

Sheeeiiiitttt... Then I'd just have to find a place to duct-tape some pegs
on my bike for my 5-year old for those days I take her home from school on
the bike. She had her first ride home from school on it with me yesterday
    - and LOVED every minute of it.

There's been a lot of us who've shared that same feeling, Rex.. I don't
think that Bill is going anywhere.. There is no telling what was on the
minds of the ABATE people who thought of this idea.. Haven't been able to
talk to any of them, yet.. I just learned of the Bill last night at the TMRA
    II meeting..

If the Bill ever gets to Committee, I can just about assure you, that some
of us will be there to testify against such a Bill.. Maybe the thing will
    just wither up and disappear..
