    Pity it is American ;-(

Whilst very good, reading the link made me think it was going to be the
Geordie version which might have been even better :)

For fear of Emperors New Clothes Syndrome, I didn't mention it was also
    v. earnest to the point of patronising.

I found it made me want a bacon sandwich.

It made me feel rather confused - I expected a spoof on the Matrix[1]
and seemed to end up viewing some vegeterian, anti-corporate,
    anti-globalisation drivel.

And wanting a bacon sandwich too, of course :)

[1] Which presumably it was, although I've never seen it[2]
    [2] Surprised? No, thought not.

I didn't think it was all drivel. A lot of people still have idea
animal live on sunny farms and are all happy. But it was a bit drivelly.
I wish people would *stop* going on about bacon sandwiches! It's
    killing me.

Sausage and fried egg sandwiches are nice too.

Hmm. I didn't think it was at all vegetarian, just ethically concerned.

    It was rather patronising though.

It was complete and utter shite. Oddly enough, most animals _do_ still
live on farms. Chickens apart, the sort of conditions described would
make no economic sense when raising animals for the table.
Err, if it's not a stupid question, why don't you just have one then?

A really good book, just a shame it's so US-centric.

I found myself wondering "but what's it like over *here*?" all
the way through. It left me with no idea at all what the state
of farming was over here, though there's a nice bit in the middle
of What A Carve Up (US title: The Winshaw Legacy) by Jonathan Coe
that suggests it might not be all that different.

  18. Oh indeed - if you wish to be horrified about big business and be
incentivised never to eat fast food again.
I think the direct implication is that the multinationals in the food
industry are repeating their "american success story" right across the
globe. And I dread to think what they are able to get away with those
parts of the former Soviet Union, Asia and Africa where money talks even
louder than it does in the west and where law and regulation is
comparatively non existent. I think it is appalling.

  19. As these are the main starvation areas, it suggests they aren't very
good at whatever they're trying to do. If they're trying at all, that
    is.
