So I bust up my clutch hand water skiing precluding my ability to ride for
about a month (should be OK in a week or so). The ZX9 has been left
dormant in the garage for the duration; still sporting the mud and crap
from my last ride (got stuck in the rain).

Consequently the conversation went a little like this:

Her: You don't ride much these days.
Me: Um, coz my hand is busted and I can't safely operate the clutch.
Her: Still, what do you think you'd get at private sale?
Me: Dunno - never thought about it. Not gonna start now either.
Her: Thing is a small car would cost about the same as your bike run and
insure. I saw a nice [boring 2nd hand buzz-box piece of shit] for about
$10k. You should be able to get *close* to that for your bike right?
Me: Maybe, but key words here are "my bike". It's in my name, I pay for
it, I ride it and since I can't fly planes any more, it's the only thing
    keeping me sane.
Her: Well while you're not riding, you should think about it OK?
    Me: No.

It's the thin edge of the wedge me thinks. Next my mother will get in on
the act and my brother will follow (both nurses.... <annoying_whine> "I see
so many busted up bodies from people on bikes..." </annoying_whine> blah
blah blah - tell someone who cares).

Any killer rebuttals you guys can think of will greatly reduce the ensuing
aggrovation. BTW, no I'm not getting rid of the bike, not for wifey or
mother-dearest or "The Bro" - not now, not ever. I'll sell the '9 when I
can afford to replace it with a '12!!

    How about

"Darling, I don't think you quite understood my position when we discussed
selling the bike; it's like this - I'm more likely to crucify our first born
child on a mountain top at dawn than I am to stop riding, OK ?"

    Or

"You know I've been thinking about our conversation yesterday, and you know,
you're right. I should sell the ZX9, it's getting a bit old and I've just taken
the 04 ZX12 for a spin, it's only an extra 8 grand after trade in - I'll be
    picking it up next week"

    or even

"Hey babe, just sold the ZX9 like you asked me too - do you want to see my new
MV Agusta Series Oro ? Only cost 65 grand !! "

Basic negotiating tactic - up the ante so that you NOT selling the bike is the
compromise position - otherwise you'll be on the back foot ....

The sale of one's only motorcycle can lead to mental illness, severe
symptoms manifest themselves in the acquisition of a 18 year old blond
mistress, a excessive appetite for alcohol and fits of depression.

The only cure is the continual acquisition of further motorcycles untill the
available storage space is fully utilised.

Just remind her that brides wear white because they're kitchen appliances.
If they start to play up it's easy to trade them in on a new one.

caution here , mine tried it recently re a later model car and get rid
of "that old thing "The Austin" " so I spent 7k more on the motor and
am almost finished grafting a Jaguar diff in as well , nothing more said
Consider purchasing a newer more expensive bike , if it wasn't for a
certain female part located below waist level the dump would be full of
    them .( women)
spend a lot and then you can say , Well don't bother about my xmas
present , how do you feel about no dual sex for a couple of months ?.

1). Go to Adult store and buy plastic vagina.

2). yes I know point.1 is enough but then take item home.

3). Show to Wife, tell her to "Teach it how to cook and then you can F**K
    Off"

4). Be prepared to get on bike and don't look back ROFLMAO.

How many busted up bodies do they see from car accidents? How many from home handymen incidents? Do
they tell people not to drive cars or use power tools?

Nurses and doctors are not really in a prime position to judge IMHO. They only see one side of the
coin (those that don't ride m/bikes themselves of course). They're anecdotal stats are heavily
biased by their proffessions and have very little corolation with reality.
