A bike related post ! My Triple had a puncture in the rear after just 500 miles, whihc has been repaired. ISTR that you can only have a tyre repaired once (by plugging as this was). This being the case, do I have eanything to lose by using one of those 'Slime' type sealers? Again ISTR that some tyre places can't / won't repair a tyre with that added, but if it's not going to be repaired anyway, it might save me from having to get another tyre as soon as otherwise I might. I know it's bad, but I hack into London so often, I spend more time than I should ridig through crap in sterile areas TIA -- Catman MIB#14 SKoGA#6 TEAR#4 BOTAFOF#38 Apostle#21 COSOC#3 Tyger, Tyger Burning Bright (Remove rust to reply) Alfa 116 Giulietta 3.0l (Really) Sprint 1.7 Triumph Speed Triple: Black with extra black bits www.cuore-sportivo.co.uk

The BS for tyre repair I believe allows two repairs to all ratings of tyre that it covers (which doesn't include Z). It's however not illegal to repair Z rated tyres and many places will. The only place I know that will (would a few months ago) do 2 repairs (normal BS rules about position of puncture/repair apply) is Chas Bikes in Great Suffolk Street, London, SE1. This being the case, do I have eanything to lose by using one of those Many people around here will tell you the stuffs crap. However, I have used Ultraseal in the past and it worked for me (I also know it hasn't worked for others). It stopped me from having to top the air up every few days (as I had to before the puncture) and didn't (as far as I could tell) cause any wheel balance probs. I'd consider using it again as it's becoming a pain in the ass to get a tyre repaired these days. Then again I check my tyres for obvious damage most days and don't generally do silly speeds. I also commute into London most days and I can't recall managing to wear out a rear tyre without getting two punctures - bining a tyre after one simply isn't an option. HTH Jim
Previously on usenet, Jim Ingram said... I've been riding bikes for 25 years now, doing between 8 and 20K miles a year. I have only just had my first ever puncture. In typical PITA style, it happened at work which is on a desolate airfield miles from any-fucking-where, and 25 miles from home. Luckily Bennets give me puncture assistance which got the bike recovered to my mates bike shop. They stuck a new tube in, that's the beauty of tubed tyres -- Lozzo : The anti-Timo ZZR1100D, GPZ500S, CB250RS x3 BOTAFOT#57/70a, BOTAFOF#57, MIB#22, TCP#7, ANORAK#9, DIAABTCOD#14, UKRMT5BB, IBW#013, MIRTTH#15a/16, BotToS#8, GP#2, SBS#10, SH#3, DFV#14, BONY#9. There is always the " can of foaming get you outa shit goo from a garage" (1) 1. Does it work with tubed tires ?

Or the *new* and *improved* "Simon with a pair of tyre levers and a puncture repair kit just in time for Frankfurt" method.
You're a pilot ? Actually, in 24 years, on and off bikes, I have accrued only 2 real and one "slow" puncture. I reckon these were all from filtering in town and picking up roofers nails.
<Crosses off tyre levers from list> Now all I need to do is find somewhere to put the cylinder re-boring kit...
Only sometimes. The movement of the tube within the tyre tends to recreate the puncture that's just been sealed by the foaming shit. It doesn't hurt to carry a can, though. -- Dave GS 850 x2 / SE 6a SbS#6 DIAABTCOD#16 APOSTLE#6 FUB#3 FUB KotL OSOS#12? UKRMMA#19 COSOC#10
The triangular piece of dusty road just before traffic islands is a favourite lurking spot for roofing nails. I suspect there's a **** in Lunnun drives around all day lobbing handfuls of roofing nails whenever he's stopped at lights.
