Just in case anyone on here has anything for sale...

Friend of mine is pissed off with only have 350ccs of pre-1970 motorcyle to
ride round on and is also hacked off with having to build the thing from
    bits...

...so he's asked me if I can ask around if anyone can sell him a
    well-restored, pre-1970
    BSA/Norton/Triumph of 500cc+ at a reasonable price.

Now I have to admit that I know bugger all about pre-1980s bikes, but he
asked, so I'm putting this up on his behalf.

So if you've got a bike that may reasonably fit the description above, then
e-mail me at david dot haines at nottscc dot gov dot uk so I can put a sad
beardy bloke in touch with you so he can give you his life's savings and you
can free up that much needed garage space.

    Ta

    Dave

PS. Just in case the e-mail address doesn't give it away, the buyer in
question is in Nottingham, so East Midlands would be useful, but not
    essential for viewing etc...

Oops. At the usual asking prices that'll be around 2 grand...
I don't. Get him to either buy Classic Bike Guide or have a look at
    the classifieds on http://www.realclassic.co.uk/.

Advise him to buy an old Beemer twin. 'Twill be less heartbreak in the end!
Failing that a UNIT T120 Bonnie engine gave me no real hassle and a
bucketload of fun (Triton). Heh, I even did Despatching on it for a few
    weeks around Glasgow.

    "Roger Hunt"
    Oh good grief

    best you will find, £1500

There are some real twats walking around

How under-valued do you reckon it is? Get in there quick! :)

    My thoughts exactly.

There's a fair proportion of wildly optimistic asking prices on there.

On the other hand...... a CB400/4 'cafe racer' for £300 sounds
    interesting ;-)

Something like an old BSA A7 would fit the bill. Or a decent Trumf
500, but I know nothing about ShiteOldBritBikes. Good sorted examples
of the "cooking" twins seem to run for ever, mind - a friend has a
Triumph 5TA he's owned for decades. All original, looks scabby, and
never fails to start or reach its destination.

The one I sold last year was easily the best you'll find - as new -
    and it made a grand.
No, it sounds like it's a total abortion.

I've owned my '63 Tiger90 since 1974 and must have done so for
some reason I suppose - loads of spares available - new, used,
    re-manufactured, bodged.
Dead easy to work on and quite quick if one doesn't mind the horribly
rapid wear of valve gear. Terrifying spring-loaded handling if pushed.
The 500s from '67 or so had longer, braced swing arm spindles giving a
little more stiffness at the rear (and revised engine breathing etc
etc), and I would go for one of them if I was looking.

  13. Good point, well made
25 years ago, maybe, but not these days - people pay more if it's got
    the boring original bits.
