I'm afraid that he-who-shops-at-Oxfam was bang on the money with mine.
And he was right about there being different numbers of speedblocks too.
Sad thing is I remembered off the top of my head exactly how many there
    were on each model.

  2. I'm glad someone queried this disturbing view that I talk about faux
Italian novellas. And as for Wine Bars - I don't think I've been in one
    in my life.

Wine Vaults yes - near Scotland Yard but not a wine bar.

  3. What's *really* horrifying is that I hadn't the faintest idea there was
any difference in the number of speedblocks. I just picked an obscure
detail and (as I thought) made it up.

  4. You know, I wanted to include you, but I couldn't actually think of a
clearly definably posting style or theme that would mark you out - apart
    from mentioning the Underground.

    No offence, like.

  5. Ever thought about going on Mastermind and choosing RD400s as your
    specialist subject?

    Seriously.

    Whinging Courier says...
Anotyher sad but true fact, I can still recite certain part numbers for
obscure RD400 bits that are no longer available. I learned them so I
could easily identify the parts I needed without having to lug a parts
book around with me on my travels. If you've got a brand new 2R9 14710-0
sitting around, you'll get about 600 quid for it on eBay.

  10. Well I was expecting something. You could simply have done
    "ooooooooooooh" or <flounce>.

I think they are close to being trademarks.
    None taken.

I think your best works can more easily be defined as ...
"You want to get where? By when? That's easy matey - hop on
a Number 38 from The Square (that will be driven by Dennis except
alternate Thursday afternoons, when Gladys fills in for him) and go as
far as The Crescent. Then, brandishing your Oyster Special, trot down
the stairs (anticlockwise while descending, please) and across the
platform to pick up the Southbound Southern Line tube as far as Bink.
Hop off there, turn right out of the doors and if you've done it
within 4 minutes the Number 257 will be waiting at the terminus.

Get Eric to drop you at the lights just before The Terrace, turn right
and walk down the alley, past the best Chinese in town and round by
the vital cashpoint, hop the tube Westbound on the Eastern Line four
stops, out by the spiral staircase (clockwise, if you don't mind) and
you'll find yourself back exactly where you started but an hour before
    you left.

    HTH and Mind The Gap".

No, that's not nearly as good as one of yours, but you get the idea.

Well, when I read your take on it just now, I damn near replied in the
same vein. Would have saved me 20 minutes, too.

    What a pair of backslappers.
