    Anyone booked yet?

Phoned reservations this morning to book and was told that the usual
deposit scheme is not operating this year.

Yet the web site still shows this:
    http://www.steam-packet.com/SteamPacket/Timetables/Manx-Grand-Prix.htm

I have sent an enquiry seeking clarification.

I suspect they fear lots of cancelled bookings in view of the credit
crunch. At 184 quid for a rider and bike they may well be correct, but a
bit naughty to be still appear to be offering the deposit system.

This the IOMSPC remember. The chaos at Liverpool last year was *almost*
    beyond belief.
Monopoly, plus supply and demand innit.

They have? Rising steadily around here - up from 83p to 89p at the
cheapest garages over the last few weeks.

Here too - diesel has gone back up to £1 from 94p. I presumed petrol
    had followed suit.

It has, but I think not quite as much.

They wouldn't want to do that in case the Manx Navy decided to
intervene on the side of the Steam Packet.

Locals won't bitch about the prices because the bottom line is that
the two periods when prices go sky high subsidise the rest of the year
plus the Steam Packet have to bring in extra boats to cope with the
increased number of people wanting to go over there.

The price isn't bad when you take all factors into account but it is
expensive when compared with a 4 hour crossing to France so maybe the
better choice is to go and watch the classics at Chimay?

The mrs pointed out earlier that Chimay is the same weekend as Fairford
and I got the whole "which is more important, me or your bike" trip.

I think we may settle on Yeovilton and Monkey World as a substitute the
    weekend before.

    Follow up. Just received this:

    "Thank you for your e-mail,

As the full fare are now in the system we are no longer accepting
deposit only bookings, I will inform our IT department about the web
site showing the TT deposit scheme."

I see that tickets can be cancelled, with a charge of between £10 and
£30 depending on the notice given (note - different conditions apply for
TT fortnight), so it could be worse.

I'd say that you could probably only get about 3 loaded and strapped
down bikes in the space that a car takes. And, for the TT & MGP, the
price of a car crossing is about 3 times the price of a bike.

  11. Makes me laugh - there was an outside chance I was going to be spending
a few days on the Isle of Man due to work, out of curiosity I checked
the ferry prices - 22 quid! I'm betting it might a few quid more come TT
    dates...
