  1. Lesson 1: oil level windows

For some reason a few bikes have ones that are a bit small and really
difficult to see. It's trickier at oil change time because the new clean
oil doesn't show up as well as the old dirty stuff.

When peering at the little window, and tipping in the oil, and
wpondering why the oil isn't showing in the window yet, keep your ears
wagging, because that odd trickling noise is the sound of ten quids'
worth of fully synthetic oil pouring out of the bottom of the engine,
into the drain tray, because you forgot to put the drain plug back in.

Stand by for Lesson Two: disc pads

  4. Lesson 1.1

a: If you observe lots of oil dripping from the front engine sprocket.
b: don't clean it all of with paraffin, hose it down, then think "that
chain will go rusty if I don't oil it" because you will end up at a:.

I hope you remembered to start the engine and rev it hard to get the last of
the old oil out before refilling it.

Sarah noticed this afternoon that the Trophy's discs were a bit rusty. She
    suggested, entirely seriously, WD-40...

That's just stupid. You want a proper oil like 3in1 rather than a water
    dispersant like Wd40.

Thought copper grease was the thing for brakes.. higher melting point of
something.. you don't want the oil burning off the disc when you yank on the
    lever.

I'm not totally convinced this reply was intended to be as humourous as it
    appears.
