Now that I'm part of the Joe Rocket posing fraternity with my 2 piece
GPX suit, I'd be interested in hearing some advice on cleaning and
maintaining the leather. What type of leather conditioners do ya use
    etc.

    Cheers

    Dubbin

    Cheep

    Feeds the leather

    Makes it water proof

Use a hair dryer to melt the wax into all the cracks..

the skin of a gpx, rolled and tanned to suit your body..

their are also some companies that let you kill your own GPX so they can
make the leather out of it.

I supose you have thought about shooting a gpx or two in your time bt?

  5. and you forgot to mention that dubbin rots the stitches.

give it a couple of years and his suit will be fucked, you should be
    working for me.

  6. Ive got military grade boots that have had stitching issues.

Its not obvious the damage its doing - until you hit the deck and the
stitching gives way. As long as the jacket or suit isnt under stress
(stitching taking load) then you wouldnt really notice.

I used to think it was bunkum as well, until I saw the effect on
Danniers (arguably the toughest boot you can buy - also one of the most
    expensive and comfortable)

    Regards

Ahh well then the typical aus.motian needn't worry, because the shrinking
jacket syndrome should provide ample stitching stress testing prior to any
    off.

According to the MSDS the principle ingredients in Dubbin are paraffin oil
and tallow. How are they going to rot stitching? The instructions for
Dubbin say "give special attention to stitching" - I reckon something else
    stuffed yer Danniers.

    Was that Dannier or Danner?

    JustAL

well considering dubbin is used and recomended by every saddler ive met,
although some also recomend neatsfeet oil to rejuvinate.

Neatsfoot was used by my fiancee's pop a horse trainer for deckaids on all
leather, bridals, saddles, etc all this had lots of stitching, and i know of
    no problems.

Leather is basicly still alive and needs to be fed to stop it decaying.

Ive also used dubbin on all my leathers, along with my father for oh gosh,
20 years, the 15 year old jacket i have here stitching seems in good nick,
cant rip the arms off it and the stitching is in perfect nick, as i took it
to a saddler about 5 yaers ago when it was given to me to check the
stitchign for rotting, as iw as told it was somethign to look at with old
    jackets...

Perhaps the dubbin, a wax compound was placed over the top of wet stitching?
essentually holding the water in the stitching. A wax over the top should
protect fromw ater and air thats the stuff that causes rotting..

"Certainly sir, I see the Bridal is available, do you want that?"

"Nah, I'll just hold her by the ears till she gets the hang of it..."

  20. Danner arcadia's

Im almost tempted to track down the research behind why dubbin with its
oil base is bad for nylon stitching, but I cant be fucked reexploring
the chemical composition of nylon and working out what petroleum
derivative its from. Nor would I be bothered exploring the chemical
reaction between two types of carbon compounds.
