    Documentary about computers taking over...

"The underlying argument is that people have given up a
dynamic political model of the world - the dream of
changing things for the better - for a static machine
ideology that says everyone is a component in a system, and
that the aim is to manage these systems and keep them
    stable."

It's an Adam Curtis doc, so it's sure to be good.

He had a bit of trouble getting them to agree to a title that long.

The Power of Nightmares was a work of genius. His blog's pretty good
too, he turns up all kinds of little gems. This one's even on topic:

Me, myself, and no one else, spoke:
Was *nothing* like I expected, but fascinating and thought
    provoking stuff!

    Watching it now

What went on in the background that you never knew, eh?

  7. I gave up after ten minutes. There were no talking ducks in it, at all.

It was an Adam Curtis documentary. It was exactly like an Adam Curtis
documentary. It was exactly like I expected it to be.

And Ayn Rand wrote fucking awful books. If I did regrets, reading The
Fountainhead would be right up there.

I'll watch it later - I've loved all his other stuff.
I've not always led a sensible life, but I *have* managed to avoid
    reading anything by Rand.

    Objectivism: Bollocks.

    Oh, and :

great track if you like industrial metal.

you may not think it from my past musical recommendations, but I've
always had a bit of a thing for IDM/EBM/nowave stuff.

Here are some of my favourites:

    Die Krupps' "To The Hilt"

    Front 242's "Headhunter"

Foetus' "I'll meet you in Poland baby"

    The Young Gods' "Skin Flowers"[1]

[1] this could be cross-threaded to my "infidelity" thread. But that
    would be telling.

    comment,

    Throbbing Gristle's "Discipline"

As I mentioned, I've not read it - deliberately - in the same way I've
deliberately chosen not to read anything by the likes of L. Ron
Hubbard. Philosophy made up by a single person is, well, IMO, suspect.

That said, I've almost everything[1] that Doris Lessing wrote, and
it's not made me particularly mad. Or was it the George Gurdjieff or
Ouspensky that "hasn't made me mad" - I couldn't say.

[1] tried and failed to read "Briefing for a Descent into Hell" at
    least 3 times - couldn't manage it.
