You were lucky to find it - they only sell it one week out of every
    four.

  2. Eh? You mean they sell it for one week and then withdraw it again?
    What's the point of that?

I never got any btw but thought if I was passing I could fill up from
empty for about thirty quid. but knowing my luck lately I'll get stopped
and have a random check done by Customs and Excise.

  5. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember Whinging Courier
It's for tractors, generators, plant, etc. Your van will run fine on it
but if you get stopped and the tank gets dipped, you are in *big* shit.

They might confiscate the vehicle... they certainly will prosecute you,
and fines for running on red diesel are not at the level of speeding.

Don't do it. If you really want to cut your running costs, either use
the van less or featherfoot it or look into running it on waste veggy
oil... do a google for it.. there's plenty of info on it.

Think 'rag week'. In fact don't bother, it really isn't worth it.

  7. Yes, I know.
    That's not good.
I use it less than once a week as it is. It's just sitting there. It'd
get more use if I lived anywhere else except London.

I'll google for the veggie oil though. Does it have to be waste or can I
just tip bog standard vegetable chip oil in there?

I've got a friend who's a farmer. He claims that he's never been
dipped, and that he doesn't know anyone who's been dipped.

Which I found interesting, though I make no claims as to its veracity.

  10. Makes you wonder if it's one of those T.V detector van type things.

Still, the thought of making biodiesel appeals or at least the thought
    of making it.

  11. Always been a big queue when I've been past it, so I've never bothered.
Total near Hockley seems cheapest on my run to Warwick anyway.

Amazingly I have nfi where the Warwick services are on the M40.

They do dip test saround here, Northants, at things that attract rural types
like farmers markets, badger baits, six toed contests and so forth.

It's genuine alright. If you get caught round SE Wales they tow you back and
impound your vehicle in my[1] yard. I can then watch you squirm like **** as
they take samples for evidence, and you waste your breath explaining how it's
someone elses fault, you needed to get to hospital, or some other equally
    implausible rhetoric.
    Fun it is.

[1]Not mine really, I just work here.

  16. Chances of being dipped in a diesel car (Pugeot etc) I reckon are about
zero, but in 20 years of SOSeriesLandrover owning I've been dipped
twice. The second time they were cackling with glee when they found
the tank full of red coloured diesel. Unfortunately (for them) it was
that colour cos I'd tipped 2 litres of ATF in it.

  18. Steady tiger.

Modern diesel fuel is shite. Total non-lubricating to solvent levels
shite. Old Landies like a bit of lube round the pumps and I had some
old ATF that was no use to me.

ATF is also very detergent, so helps (allegedly) to ungum the injectors
a bit as well as lube the pump.

Did they take your word for it or was there some kind of further test to
    check?

  20. They appeared to take my word for it, after shoving a little probe up
the exhaust and revving **** out of the engine.
