They're working well then. Second day in service, & the M4 is shut at
    J14 & J18 due to two crashes.

It's everyone jamming on the brakes as they approach.

you're probably not far off the mark. Known (or suspected) speed
cameras at fixed locations causes traffic bunching.

As of 15:24 M4 westbound 13 miles of stationary traffice between Junction
    17 to 19 [1]

Oh dear, wouldn't it be interesting if this was caused by a newly switched
    on speed camera.

One of the two crashes was caused by a jacknifed lorry according to the AA.
Sounds like the sort of thing that could occur when cars start panic
    braking.

Unfortunatlely even if it were the case, weasel words will get them out of
    it.

Interesting to who? (Or is that whom? Oh, who GAF, Pip will be along
shortly to keep me right.) The gubmint certainly won't care. They'll say
it's done it's job, it brought the traffic to a complete and utter stand
still therefore no more accidents could happen!

Much like 95% of all UKRM threads then :) The new cameras are between
J14 & J18 though, which is where the two crashes happened, so it does
seem a bit of a coincidence.
Seems to have several a week these days, almost all caused by people
driving into the back of each other, the same as on every motorway.

If the cameras were used to dish out fines to people driving too close,
they'd have my full support. But that could be seen as genuinely trying
to reduce the number of accidents, which would never do.

Yes, you are correct. hence my "even if it were the case"

I'm just very despondant about the whole camera thing in terms of even if
they are proven to be useless, they still won't be removed.

If cars continue to drive into the back of the wreckage is that still
considered to be the same accident?

But quoted by a copper a while ago...

"If speed cameras didn't make a difference, it would be "Well, all these
cameras are not making a difference, so we need to put out more" and

"If speed cameras made a difference, it would be "Well, the cameras seem to

That's exactly why I'm despondant about it. It'll never end until despite
the continuing carnage because it can all be justified by "it might save a
    life".

On a different note, will that be 10 points[1] for one of TVP's finest?

[1] Lead role at a fatal road accident

If not, they'll be getting 2pts (or is it 5?) for each speeder, so well on
the way to being chief constable.

You met Doesnotcompute yes? Somewhat like that, though it appears Bear's had
a haircut if the post earlier is anything to go by, so everything may have
    changed.
