    I can see that, Loz:

... Speeding Spic spots closing car, winds CB throttle to the stop.
Spic cheerily cries over his shoulder, "You'll never take me alive,
    pseudocop ...
    <seize>
    ... per".

    "Oh, ****".

Stationary Spic last seen being brutally anally gang-raped on M25 hard
shoulder. Film at 02:30, Men and Motors channel.

I didn't think even Police cars are exempt from speed limits, I
thought it was just comradery that you didn't get reported for it,
unlike some poor souls driving fire engines and ambulances.

(not having a go at you personally).

It's possible to get fake Policemen in uniforms and can Joe Public
tell the difference between a real warrant card and a fake one? If in
doubt or feel in danger (JP may correct me on this) you can ask to be
followed to the nearest cop shop, I would think many a bogus cop would
be unwilling to do this. Although I'd suspect if the PC was pukka and
you were borderline at getting a wigging or a ticket, you'd most
probably get the ticket if you went to the station (can JP confirm on
that one? Well you started this thread, whadidya expect? <g>).

It is the state that sentances you to go there, so it's the state (not
the prison) that removed your freedom.

Ah, but those drivers would have failed their driving tests by a
    country mile too.

    You can't have an examiner in the passenger seat for every journey;
it's not really the fault of the DSA test that you can drive perfectly
for the 45 minutes of the test but act like a muppet thereafter.

Still, I think you did kidna make that point in a roundabout way with
    the comment about TP ...

Something like, your registration number is actually owned by the DVLA
and you only have paid for the right to display it.

  9. Reminds of the time I fucked off from the Dartford tunnel/bridge toll
booths after some rentacunt jobsworth in a security jacket tried to
detain me for overtaking a tanker in the tunnel.

Several weeks later I got a threatening letter demanding the unpaid
    toll of 20p.

****. I still owe them that.

So if the number's already theirs, and they can copy it with impunity,
what about any artwork on the plate next to the number?

Everyone has a power of arrest for a *huge* range of offences.

Noone knows for sure what the new powers will be but I can see the new
lot getting section 25 arrest powers on top of the ones that everyone
has. That way they will be able to arrest when name and/or address
    refused/not known/not verified when a non-arrestable offence committed

Bearing in mind that includes offences such as shoplifting it is
    rather a large power!

Police/fire/ambulance vehicles are exempt from speed limits

section 87 Road traffic regulation act 1984
No statutory provision imposing a speed limit on motor vehicles shall
apply to any vehicle on an occasion when it is being used for fire
brigade, ambulance or police purposes if the observance of that
provision would be likely to hinder the use of the vehicle for the
purpose for which it is being used on that occasion.

People in fire engines/ambulances dont get reported for speeding
either. You`re probably thinking of that chap in East Anglia who was
reported. If thats the case then the definition of ambulance in teh
    act is:

An ambulance is a vehicle which is constructed or adapted and used for
the purposes of conveying sick, injured or disabled persons. None of
the definitions listed in the Road Traffic Acts could extend to
vehicles used for the transportation of blood or human tissue.

Because he was carrying an organ he wasnt exempt - madness I know!

<VBG> I`ve followed people to police stations before when using
unmarked vehicles - fair play to them. Doesnt make any difference to
how they are dealt with by me but I cant speak for everyone!
