steve auvache was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
Actually I'm not. That's another bunch of 'merican shysters, but not
the same. I'll see if I CBA do to find out which company I was
    referring too...

No problem at all, mate. However [usual disclaimer], be wary that these
things /are/ movable -- they've been in situ for something like 12 months,
but there's nothing to stop them being relocated. The M25 ones are easier
to spot on the "new" open-backed gantries.

On that note, the only reason I know where the live cameras are is my
trusty Snooper S5. You'd be surprised how often the more usual roadside
    Gatsos get moved around.

Went on the M25 clockwise this morning and saw the anti-clockwise
gatsos, one above each lane somewhere around the A412 overpass. Couldn't
see the clockwise ones in my mirrors on any of the gantries though.
    Will look tonight.

  7. See the AA comment in http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3158184.stm (and no AA
does not stand for Alcoholics Anonymous!). Anyone else think politicians
have complete lost the plot? lets automate everything, remove all elements
of subjective human judgement and we'll all be safe in our beds! :(

Much as I don't like the general American arrogant attitude, I think their
approach to Gatsos (Mr Gatso meet Mssrs Smith & Wesson) is far superior to
    ours!

*ding* Just watch the revenue come in.........

As soon as I know I`ll let you know how long the course is and what it
    entails. Should be interesting though!

Exactly - anyone hear the proposals to give community safety wardens
limited police powers - watch this space!

Civilians employed by a company that holds a government contract
Already have one - the ones that set up the community safety wardens
and decrimilised parking and handed it to councils to enforce
Not 100% about the fine detail but at the moment it would require a
change in the law to make them exempt from speed limits
You can but the summons will just come in the post.

Hoh yuss! One of the main things is that MOP will think of them as
another branch of police and it will reduce public confidence in the
police even lower. Also *serious* safety concerns both for members of
    the public and them

Police have a power to stop *any* vehicle on a road and can hence stop
the bikes. once stopped they dont have the power to breath test them
    unless certain criteria are met.

Since Brighton & Hove council took the parking over with what seems like
hundreds of moped mounted wardens, endemic double parking has stopped and
you are more likely to get a spot for a car, the (free) bike bays only
have bikes in them, and there are more of them. Dumped cars disappear
pretty quickly. Pay and display machines work, Parking starts at 10p
    etc. etc.

IIRC Brighton & Hove have one of the highest ticket issue rates but one
of the lowest successful appeal rates.

On the whole I'd say it's been a success. Certainly has encouraged a lot
    more PTW travel.

  15. I got worried for a moment there...esp with the potential of clay
    pigeon shooting.

But then I out the two bits of the phrase together and realised it was
    a saying after all...

Still, better make sure his next jumper doesn't have a target on it.

  19. Hmm, is this the one where they have the power to "hold someone until
the Police arrive", or something else?
