Monday marathon, Bradford to Brighton & back in the day :) R1 style...

OK, whats the best way on the M25, around lunchtime, anticlockwise are the
roadworks still there near M40 etc? Obviously, i'll be hitting the M25 at
    the M1 intersection...

I like going the clockwise direction, that time of day cause any strife?

Yeah, i was thinking the A1, not many coppers about & I know it well enough
    for speed cams etc.

I wont make the mistake i did the first time i went over the bridge on a
bike...pulled into the services to get some money etc, only to find on the
way out there's a sign saying bikes are free.....

The M25 is solid roadworks from the M1 junction to the M40. Painful.

The M1 is mostly roadworks from Leicester to London.

As suggested, take the A1 and Dartford crossing. Unless you like
spending several hours filtering through stationary traffic, anyway.

Yebbut .. the 4 lanes aren't really working well yet. Feckin' numpties
using lanes 2 and 3, not moving into lane 1 and causing minor tailbacls
when someone in lane 4 doesn't overtake quickly enough.

If you don't mind undertaking in lane 1 you're well away .. ;)

  5. West side of the M25 M1 to M4 is stationary most of the time, has been
for 2 years and will be for another 2 now the road works have moved
further round to the M1, I know, I use it most days.

    Go A1(M) - A14 - M11 - M25 - M23. The A1(M) further south is solid in
the mornings through the Hatfield tunnel roadworks.

  6. You will cop the road works on the M25 around the M11 - A12 but it's
not so bad, the traffic is always lighter on the Essex side.

I'd go straight through the city rather than **** about with the M25.

A14 is a minefield of cameras and so slow too

  9. Not the bit from the A1 to the M11, they are SPECS, so it's not an
    issue on a bike.

I'll hit the A1 at the M62 junction, so easy now its all sorted out &
    flowing.

    Looking forward to Brighton, already..

I'm pretty sure there's a couple of bike catchers near Sandy.

  14. There are, but if he takes the A 14 at Alconbury he'll miss them.

That would be the sensible route. It's hell on earth down the bottom of
the M1 in the morning, but it also gets congested at Huntingdon all the
    way to Cambridge as well.

I dunno why Beeston gets such special treatment - they've got a
footbridge and everything there. They slip a camera van into the layby
in the middle of the village as well: I saw it there when Southbound,
looking at me, then 30 minutes later on the return trip it was on the
Northbound side, looking at me again.

It was the fixed camera on the Southbound side that first made me
wonder about cameras making a substantial contribution to road safety,
as the skidmarks in front of it became obscured by the sad piles of
broken glass and plastic on a regular basis.
