A hundred quid for four fucking shirts? I've bought complete working
and MOTd bikes for less than that and had change left for a new T-
    shirt.

Good for you. However 25 quid is still not much for a quality bit of
    clothing.

Thing is - there's very few such shops in the Square Mile.
Pah. Invented by Gap and their ilk to sell people another set of
clothes that sit between work and leisure! My version of dress down
is to leave the tie off.

Well, I'm still looking for an excuse to have lunch at the Japanese
Restaurant around the corner from me (Tokyo City) so if anybody's up for
    that...

Oh, and AFAIR darsy's on Newgate Street, pretty much opposite from my
    previous employer (Merrill Lynch)

  5. Then you will be overjoyed to know that #1 Son expects to pay 150 for
    just the one shirt.

Business casual is pissing me off. Since working at home I've pretty
much gone back to casual, plus a suit for meeting customers and anything
where I might need to look prsentable. I have a customer meeting on
monday and the sales dude has said "Dress business casual..."

I think I'm going to have to go for suit without jacket or tie, combats
and a hooded top is just a bit too casual I reckon.

I don't do casual shirts, and suits with T-shirts are too miami vice..

Heh. I bought a few casual shirts from Cotton Traders [1] recently for
this kind of thing. The fall-back option is the polo type shirt - so
long as you avoid the garish colour options.

[1] I must be getting old, 'cos whenever I need clothes I go straight to
Cotton Traders or M&S online so I don't have to suffer walking around
    shops.

I am, in fact, stunned. The 4 shirts I picked at random, as I didn't
    believe it, were £312.

To be *completely* fair it does depend on the suit and the environment
IMHO. Linen suit, sea island shirt, no tie in Panama is OK, for
example. Grey M+S, white Debenhams short sleeve in Hounslow is probably
    not.

Can you get your shirt collar to stay outside the suit collar
as worn in the fifties at Blackpool or Skegness?
It just doesn't look right otherwise.

Eh? What's wrong with Jeans and T-Shirt? As long as they're clean and
    newish looking, what's the problem?
    Why?

I *loath* ties. I Insist on a loud silk one for when I do have to wear
    one, mind.

It doesn't really work in the city insurance market as Lloyd's still
    has a suits only policy.

But I read somewhere in the trade press the other week that there is
something of a backlash growing against the whole biz-cas thing.

Despite working for a company that allows "business casual" jeans, and
tops with prominent brand logos are banned for starters.

    Bring back blue suits!
