  1. So, being unable to make darsy's birthday bash[1], I wandered across to
TM Lewin's in Cheapside for some emergency shirts.

On the way back I saw a scooter-boi rounding a traffic island on the
wrong side. Which would have worked well, had there not been a
DozyPedestrian(tm) yapping into a mobile, crossing the road and looking
    the 'right' way.

    There was a mild coming-together.

Then it got all growly and "COME ON THEN, D'YOU WANT SOME?".

Hugely amusing from the audience perspective.

London does have its plus points.

[1] There was a slight case of "Why is that process grabbing 300Mb of
cache when it accesses the first file?" to deal with...

    Oh, hell yes.

But riding into a clueless pedestrian looking the other way was a little
unobservant. And getting ranty afterwards was really silly. Getting
ranty with an equally ranty bloke-with-an-attitude-problem was *really*
    daft.

In fairness, the scootah-boi seemed to realise this. Looking for the bus
*before* making his escape would have been better. But the bus driver
was awake, so all was well. But not as funny as it could have been.

Cheapside, eh? Which would suggest that you're working pretty much
around the corner from guys I'm working for atm.

    Lunch sometime?

Oddly enough I wandered to TM Lewin at Leadenhall. For a similar
    reason.

    Where are you based, then?

Are they any good? I need some new shirts since I appear to have ingrown
    my current crop.

IMHO they're pretty good, yes. I still prefer eterna shirts but I do
    have a few TM Lewin.

That said, I quite like Charles Thyrwitt - I'd say the quality is
better than TM Lewin and you can pick up some bargains if they have a
sale on. Plus you can order them online...

You City boys earn *far* too much.

Primark or M&S for *emergency* shirts. Lewins for 'proper' ones.

I'm not sure it's about how much they earn. Clearly, I've never even
heard of Lewin but I can't imagine why anyone would need to look
further afield than M&S, John Lewis, or any other decent High St.
shop. What's so much better that makes it worth paying, presumably,
    extortionate prices for?

Don't find that M+S fit well these days. Nearest Lewis to me is bloody
miles. I won't be paying the £55 list price for shirts, but it's pretty
obvious that they can be got for £27.00

They're hardly extortionate. They're nice shirts, available in decent
sizes (i.e. differing sleeve lengths), and they were four for a hundred
    quid.

I really don't know. I'm sure SWAO[1] will come along and say
'quality' or 'they fit better'[2] in a moment.

When I worked in Jermyn St., I bought my dad a Lewin's shirt for
Christmas one year. He loved it and started ordering them mail order.

For me, the cotton is too heavy and a bastard to iron, so most of mine
are M&S, Debenhams types, etc. These days, I wear 'business casual'
    so don't need to bother.

    [1] Someone With An Opinion
[2] I find nearly all shirts ill fitting as I'm only about 5'8" but on
the 'non-slim' side with a fat neck. A 17" collar which I need to be
able to do up the top button means that the body of the shirt usually
has room for Demis Roussous in it as well as me.
