Luggage / Panniers for CBF 600

A little while ago I advertised a 05 CBF 600 here, my mate is quite
interested but wants to know first if he can get luggage for it (so he can
go down to his mum/dads place in southern France when the mood takes.

I've had a bit of a Google, and found the official Honda stuff here -
    http://www.hgbmotorcycles.co.uk/index.html?lang=en-uk&target=d122.html

And then there is stuff like this -
    http://www.windingroads.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=44

But to be honest, we don't really know what we're doing, what's best or
anything so I'm looking for a little bit of advice :) Anyone fitted
panniers / luggage to a CBF 600? What's usually the best way to go with
    these things?

Cheers in advance for any advice :)

My recommendation would be a top box with soft panniers. Whilst a top
box can affect the handling they are very handy, even for short trips
for commuting. I've used this arrangement on a TDM850, CBR600 and my
current BMW travelling several times to places like Italy, Slovenia &
    Croatia.

On a 600, full hard luggage will make the bike a lot heavier and reduce
the ability to filter. With the top box/soft pannier combo you can keep
more cherished items in the dry & a little more secure. Less cherished
items, like laundry, can live in the soft luggae.

www.givi.it has a fitment guide. If he decides on hard luggage then they
    make the best stuff IMV.

If he would like a tankbag then the stuff from www.baglux.co.uk is the
    best stuff, again IMV.

That wasn't available in 1996 when I bought my black Alpha which is still
    in use today.

It is very similar to the Alpha, size wise, with the addition of the useful
document pocket under the map holder. I'm less convinced by the need for
    the phone holder.

Your need for three true colours shows a degree of cultural abjection.
Using that horrible Americanization, color, is utterly contemptible. You
    should be ashamed.

I didn't have any option for a tank cover and bag to fit the Voxan other
than Baglux, but I am very impressed with it. Can't remember the model,
but the expanding facility is useful. The side pockets where you stow
away the rucksack type straps are also useful for odds and ends, plus it
has a small 'secret' zipped compartment under the base.

Point of order, Yer Dagossity. There's only one true colour for
anything motorcycle-related - always has been, always will be.

I'll let you off with a warning this time, English not being your
first language an' all (closer to it than many of the posters here,
mind, but that's just apparently accidents of birth).

Baglux/Bagster stuff rocks. Or rather, it doesn't.

I bought the two-piece bag (Omega, IIRC) ten years ago. One or the other
section has been used almost every day since, and it's still (mostly)
    going strong.

The zip died on the top bag a few years ago, but the local leather
repair place put a new one in for not much money.

I managed to rip the clips off the bottom section[0] and split one of
the side seams; I've got a new bottom panel to be sewn on, just need to
get around to taking it somewhere to be sorted.
Shouldn't that be full of rain cover?

Yes, the new bags seems to be much more modern-looking, including more
little pockets and compartments, and are made using materials that look
a bit more fashionable than the old imitation-leather vinyl stuff.

Ah - yes, I suppose it should. I tend not to bother with the shower cap
and line the bag with a heavy duty plastic sack instead. I only use the
side pockets for a prop stand load spreading plate and other stuff that
can survive getting damp. Anything that might not is popped in to a
    small re-sealable food bag.

    It's well-recorded that I'm another Baglux zealot.

I should report that their after sales service is great too (or
rather, that of their UK importer). I damaged the clip thingy on my
bag last year, so I rang them up and they stuck another one in the
    post, free of charge.
