Dunno. But the length of this thread suggests that some here, do...
Why would you bother? A catalyst (sic) equipped bike is designed to run
    on Unleaded fuel.....

Anyway, they're phasing out LRP, as it's no longer economical for the
servos to carry it. Instead, the few that run pre-86 vehicles can by
cans of additive to mix in with their PULP.

    LRP IS unlead fuel!
    ~
I stopped at a couple of servos on last weeks trip that didn't have PULP
    pumps but had Super/LRP pumps.
When you're in outer-southern bumfuck and you need a tankful then it'd be
nice to know whether or not the LRP (on which my bike will run more happily
than ULP) will do some lasting damage.

I don't even know if using LRP in a post '86 vehical is illegal or not!
    Grey rules abound.

    Where's it say that?
All I can find is that using leaded petrol is illegal and LRP isn't leaded.

  8. If it's the F650, then it only has the ONE exhaust/muffler. The other
bit - that looks like an exhaust - is purely for cosmetics.

Same as the Virago XV250 has TWO air pods on the side. Only one is
actually an air pod - the other is cosmetic.

And how do you poison an inanimate object pray tell !

It either a) leaves a coating on the platinum core of the cat (my
    understanding)
    b) has a chemical reaction with the cat rendering it ineffective by
turning it into a compound that doesn't perform as a catalyst or c)
    has no effect.

My understanding is a) if you have info to support b or c (or even an
    unspecified d) please advise
BP are with you on that
    http://www.bp.com.au/products/fuels/lrp/lrp.asp?menuid=ed

None of the others are 'fessing up either way. (Shell Caltex etc
    AFAICT)

    Aftermarket does use tin
    http://www.autoweb.com.au/cms/A_52443/newsarticle.html

And Tin has been used in the US at one stage
It may well be that the K and P compounds are more effective or merely
cheaper. I'll have to do some research to see if anyone has
    differentiated between

Is that true?!!? Fark; it's a bloody bulky-looking muffler for a bit of
    decoration!
    How un-BMW.......
    Clem
(I think the little Virago has a fake muffler too)

Its a girls bike, it is really for cosmetics, hair spray, feminine products,
    extra mobile phone etc.

  13. If you're talking F650GS (the current one), you're wrong. The exhaust
enters the left can first which houses the Cat Convertor, it then flows
across to the right can which is the silencer. The older F650 "Funduro" is
    a different bike.

Yeah it does, I got told that on this group a coupla years ago and my
reaction was "no fucking way that can be true nobody would deliberately
add 10Kg of metal to a 250 for no reason" so i went and looked at one in
the showroom and sure enough, it has a dummy muffler..

so which one is fake? and what happens to the exhaust gas from that
cylinder (or is one of the cylinders fake too?)

From memory it's the upper one and the back pipe actually goes down
    (hidden) into the lower muffler.
I know it looks pretty convincing but you'll have to do a JL and go look at
    a real one.

It's a two into 1 there's a black painted pipe that runs from the
start of the lower can up into the upper can from memory. It's been a
couple of years so I'm fuzzy - could have been top pipe down into the
    lower one.

And yeah it does look convincing from a distance, that's why I didn't
believe it - go and have a look at one.
