Don't involve me in it. I only ever rode it once and decided it was
just another wanky parts bin special, aka a Suzuki Bandit.

I think you've just been whooshed. Have a look at the ukrmc FAQ or
google groups for potential enlightenment regarding Kenny Boi and brake
    disks.

I don't frequent ukrmc (mainly because it seems to attract a higher
number of anally retentive cunts than most groups) so have missed his
    gems of wisdom.

My arguement in favour of skimming discs is based on the fact that I
worked for a company who made braking systems for GP Karts and a good
part of their work involved having their discs returned for skimming.
They actually sold the discs from new with a good allowance for a skim
    or two.

Kenny can **** right off as far as I'm concerned because he's just a
    ****.

Fucked linkage bearings caused by never being greased, and finally making
their way through the linkages is far more likely!

  10. You wouldn't know Chris, because the last time you took a spanner to
your Raleigh Runabout Wilson was in Downing Street. You've spent the
last forty years wanking over old issues of Motorcycling Quarterly.

  17. I'd agree if that was a shite old Bandit that'd been through a dozen
    uncaring owners.

OK, it was, but Loz had the rear suspension apart and rebuilt. I'm
inclined to suspect an undetected crack or sheared pivot. Pure
    speculation at the moment though.

No it isn't. The first giveaway will be the fact that your discs will
show signs of rust and the second will be go and apply a magnet and
see what happen. Magnetic stainless steel is uncommon and only used
for specific purposes. Brake rotors aren't one of those specifics.

Just in case curiosity gets the better of you, I tried a magnet on the
10R, the 9R, the Bandit 12 and the Triumph Daytona. All magnetic.

Stainless discs may have been common a few years ago but so were
    spoked wheels.
I'd love to know what the "work" a disc does to work harden it.

Old discs made from stainless might get hard after extreme heat such
as that produced by metal to metal contact but they'd be blue after
that sort of treatment and nobody would waste their time skimming a
    disc that had gone blue.
This isn't my field. I consider myself a bit of an expert in a
different area of engineering but not this. This shit is basic
    engineering.
Most discs that are skimmed are only about 0.010" out. That's enough
to make your brakes judder and is a small enough amount to be removed
by shimming onto a magnetic chuck and then grinding one side flat
before reversing on the chuck and grinding the other.
    This is basic engineering.
It's obvious he hasn't but this post isn't for his benefit.
