Nah - I have fond memories of my Great Uncle Will cycling back from
his allotment with a bag of produce, drunk on the feeling on good
wholesome production, and a couple of pints in the Prince of Wales.
Just wouldn't have been the same if he'd been up the co-op.

Not exactly no. A sense of natural cycles and our place within them is
nearer. Growing a crop is one way of connecting with this for me. But
one individuals sense of spirituality is informed by more than can be
conveyed in a text medium. And some have no connection with it and
    wouldn't understand <shrugs>

Of course now I'm thinking of the Young Ones

"we sow the seed, nature grows the seed"
Being by the sea. But tbh I can find that sense of inner peace
anywhere when I want to. Works for me and that is all that matters.

Ho yuss. Especially if the home grown peas are in the pan and
simmering within 10 minutes of being picked. Very sweet and tasty.

Old way is a potato clamp. Build a structure with timber and paving
stones, put potatoes inside (making sure no bad or spade-damaged ones
get in) make a big heap of earth on top, leaving a 'doorway' a paving
stone wide, put paving stone door on, put brick against it. However,
if you can't do that, plaggy dustbin in shed lined with paper is not
bad. Make sure to keep lid on. Again, make sure no bad/damaged ones
    get in there.
If you have no proper storage, a cool place indoors, away from the
light, in a paper sack is the best way to keep them. We are lucky - we
have an old cupboard on an outside wall to a cool tunnel with a brick
floor - vegs and fruit keep very well there if we take them out of the
    plastic.

I find that successive planting works up to a point - they tend to
catch up with each other in the end.
You can make your own tomatoes last 8 months of the year, which isn't
bad, if you have a greenhouse. You need an awful lots of plants
    though.

    1. Start the seeds off in March in a heated greenhouse
    2. Turn off the heat at the end of April.
    3. Plant most of the seedlings outside in May.
    4. Begin to pick greenhouse toms in late May.
    5. Begin to pick outdoor toms in July.
    6. Harvest all remaining outdoor toms before first frosts.
    7. Store most away from light.
    7. Store ones you want to eat (green and red ones in same bowl) in
kitchen; the ripe ones encourage the green ones to ripen.
    8. Replenish bowl from store as needed.

You'll go on getting fresh tomatoes into January. Note: the outdoor
ones taste better than the greenhouse ones.
