Well, not quite. A week or two ago I posted a question about the south
Louisiana coastline and mused that it might make an interesting trip for me
and my trusty ST to go see what remained of the effects of Rita and Katrina.
Well, Friday & Saturday I took that trip. What I saw was unreal. A very
brief narrative and pictures are at the link below:

Yeah, took that loop myself a couple of weekends ago. Did you happen
to see the landfill that *used to be* Cameron? One thing we noticed is
that you could only tell a neighborhood was once there because there
    were refrigerators in the debris.

  3. nice shots, mick, and pictures don't do it justice; you have to see it
to realize how ovewhelming it is. that's what happens when you take a
direct hit on the coast from a serious hurricane; reminds me of west
galveston august of 1984. looked like beirut, the middle eastern hot
spot at that time, totally bombed out.

were you dodging big scour holes in the roads caused by the flood
currents? there were holes large enough to easily swallow a car after a
alicia and i would imagine it would be the same or worse there.

Yeah I did. Looked like the local high school property had been turned into
    a landfill.

Wow. Thanks for posting. I wonder if the people have just given up and
moved on? I guess if you've lost everything there's nothing to keep you
in the way of the next hurricane.

  6. rita at landfall was the equivalent of a 75 mile wide F2/F3 tornado, and
then you get real tornadoes coming in with the innermost rain bands
around the eyewall. it'll make a mess.

I just got reminded of another large City, that was destroyed by Natures
    Best, earthquakes, San Francisco, 1906.
    Thismonth.
I said once, that an American city of any size had never been 80%
destroyed, like Nor'Leans, by hurricane Katrina.
But forgot, about San Francisco, Ca.
Have yawl seen it lately on TV?
Iforgot how bad, the fires, Wow.
The Military blowing up, to finish off some of the buildings, and so
    4th.

Truly amazing. It looks like someone dropped bombs on that whole area.
Thanks for sharing the pics with us. It's a reminder that it will be a long
time before that whole area is habitable again.

in Houston area. sorry about that. <<

Well, you got it half right BJ so I guess that counts. I *used* to live in
Lafayette back in the late 70's & early 80's. Now I live in the land of the
    Kamakaze cage drivers.
