Well Moore IS a hypocrite. I think that a lot of people are, even if
unwillingly or unknowingly. However, the difference here is that he
blatantly does the exact kind of thing he preaches against. I checked
out http://www.moorewatch.com and just skimmed it, but found it quite
    humorous.

If you ride long enough you will definitely encounter the anti-biker
that tries to hurt you. What's amazing is that they don't even think
of the consequences of "playing chicken" with you are.

You won't have to worry about that from me. I'm against legislation
that forces someone to wear a helmet or seat belt.

We know each other, that well.. I've teased you a bit.. hell.. I even tease
ol' Brian.. I'd never criticize you for wearing a helmet.. you know that..
The philosophy should be.. "you ride yours and I'll ride mine.. if I don't
like the way you ride yours.. then I won't ride with you"...

Regardless of the opinion of a few on this newsgroup.. "they" are not a
majority... Evidence of that is reflected in the Helmet Law legislation that
    we enjoy...

Brian pointed out something that no one has considered.. The critics who are
so desperately trying to discredit Moore and claim that his work is nothing
more than misrepresentations and outright lies, have failed to take him to
task.. (that would be to sue his ass in open court).. Not one of them have
felt strongly enough to sue the man for "slander, lies and deception"..
    hmmm.. strange, isn't it ?

Instead, they are attempting to discredit his work by attacking him in the
media and forums...where there is no risk of furthur exposure.. His comments
are that he would welcome any formal lawsuit and has assembled a team to
handle it..just in case.. I find something unsettling about the critics who
make their claims with such certainty but resort to smear tactics in the
media rather than an open court remediation..

No one needs to defend Moore .. What is more significant is the fact that
all these people who try to discredit him by claiming he lies and
misrepresents haven't gone after him legally... LOL... If what you say is
true.. why hasn't some of those who are so critical of him, filed a suit in
one of the courts. ? <chuckle> could it be that lawsuit in open court
would require proving their case against Moore..?? Could it be that fear of
furthur exposure keeps those critics from suing his lying ass..?? Could that
be why they limit their criticism to the media rather than taking Moore to a
courtroom.. While they are criticizing Moore in the media, they are only
exercising the same rights that he has done.. with no financial exposure ..

He put his money where his mouth is.. They haven't .. If he has lied and
slandered.. take his sorry ass to court and get remediation... Till then ..
STFU.. or go see the movie, at least you will know more what you are talking
    about...

Oh, I certainly don't mind a bit of teasing every now and then. Heck,
we don't even agree on a lot of things, but that doesn't mean we can't
enjoy a good ride and each other's company.

Well, technically speaking, the movie is a work of fiction, or an
artists interpretation, right? You can't sue for that.

If I create a movie, and even if I use actual footage of real events,
but manipulate the film to represent my artistic viewpoint it's not
    slander or libel.

Hmmm.. good point.. I just wonder why this particular film has caused such
an effort to discredit it and keep it away from the public by the Bush
supporters.. Since it first "aired".. wonder why so many of the pundits have
tried so very hard to discredit Moore and his movie.. Sheesh.. there is a
veritable movement to indict Moore as a liar .. If what these people say has
any merit, why aren't they suing his ass ? If what you are saying has any
merit, then again, why is there so much uproar over a movie.. This isn't the
first controversial movie to be produced.. They went to court to keep the
Reagan film off the market.. Something wrong with this picture..

It probably has more to do with the timing of the release of the
movie. It's an election year, and the time is drawing short. The
movie is as much a blow to the Bush campaign as any other form of
    advertising.

I think the reason that people get so upset about it, and this
includes libs, conservatives, republicans and democrats is that the
movie creates a false impression. Now, granted I have not personally
seen it, but I've read some reports about it from some staunch
left-wing democrats and even they thought it was pretty skewed.

What bothers me about it is that I think a lot of people will go and
see the movie and say "yeah, this is how it really is / was." Without
doing any real investigation on their own or any real research they
will become "Bush haters" and vote for Kerry for no other reason than
he is not Bush. That mentality frightens me when it comes time to
vote. The same mentality of "I'm voting for Bush because he's a
    republican" frightens me, too.

I've never favored voting for one candidate or another simply for the
sake of them being in one particular party. While it doesn't seem to
happen as much with republicans, I've known many people that said "I'm
a democrat and that's how I'm voting." When you start talking to
them, they have no clue of who is running or what their campaign is
all about. Republican or democrat, that mentality is scary.
