The security at the airport was a joke before 911, and I don't think
it improved much. But, keep in mind that I said something to the
effect that it was probable. Not 100% that it would not have
happened. Nobody can predict the future and nobody can predict what
    would have happened for sure.

Is that right? I haven't shopped for DVDs in target in forever. I
had no idea that was taking place. That, to me, seems racist. LOL

That's because you took the time to try a few until you found one that
fit comfortably and had a good vent system instead of just trying the
cheapest one on the shelf, hating it, and proclaiming all helmets
    uncomfortable and/or unsafe.
But... but... if you just ride perfectly, all the time, and have more
skill than Kenny Roberts... you'll never go down. That's reason enough
to lower the risk level during your evaluation.
Just remember to be like Jean Dixon and not like John Edwards. The
former can see the future (and know when to wear the helmet only on the
day of the wreck). The latter (claims to) talks to the dead.

LMAO...I never heard the claim that John Edwards talks to the dead.. These
days, he's talking to the American voters.. doing a good job of it too..
Might do well to listen to the man..

Be that as it may.. as the law is written.. I am in compliance with the law,
when I ride a motorcycle without the helmet.. A lot of good people fought
that battle long and hard, just to give us ALL the right to make that
    decision..

I would not criticize the ones who make the decision to wear helmets.. I do
criticize the ones who believe that the helmet makes them "better" riders or
"safer" because they are wearing one.. The cost of the helmet or the gucci
qualities of the helmet doesn't enhance anything but a self image ..

Well, in all honesty when I first got into motorcycles I bough the
cheapest SOB on the shelf. I hated it. :-D That is why I am a
huge advocate of spending the extra $$$ and getting one that you
    really like.

Even if YOU ride perfectly, that is not to say that the road or
    someone else is perfect. ;-)

I'm not sure if this posting will be actually showing up on the
servers. I keep posting about the new movie that's out by the big guy
from Michigan and when I mention either the name of the movie or his
name, the message never seems to appear. I'm not sure if it's just
because I'm posting it and it's disappearing or if someone is actually
stopping anything mentioning the movie. You've got to go see the new
movie out in theaters now. It's without a doubt the best yet!
It wouldn't be racist since there's no "superiority" of race involved.
I do think it's odd that DVDs and CDs are separated out based on the
star of the movie. I was thinking it was (at first) the studio or
something....mainstream and low budget or something. Nope, Daddy Day
Care starring Eddie Murphy is stuck in the black section too. Barber
Shop is in the black section...and if you're talking low budget movie
there were plenty of "white people movies" that were lower budgetted
    than the "black people movies".

I finally had to ask, "so, when someone asks for a movie starring a
black man or woman...do you direct them to your negro section?".

But, the CDs are set up the same way...they are separated out in
sections with Christian, Country New Release, Latin, Soundtracks,
    White Rap, Black Rap.

    As I said, I don't know that it'd be considered "racist", I just don't
know what category you'd be able to place it in. It didn't seem to
bother the employees or the people shopping.

    BTW, WHERE DO YOU SHOP?!?!?!

You don't shop at Walmart, you don't shop at Target...I saw you go
into a designer biker store (I went in there too...so I'm not taking a
stab at you for that) so I KNOW you shop sometimes!

This is just a stupid argument, to me. There are those who will say
that anyone who takes "risks" shouldn't be allowed medical care.

    ....until it's them!

What are the "rewards" to playing football on a Saturday afternoon in
a park? More people are injured that way than from riding without a
helmet. More people end up in an emergency room that way. And more
people hit those emergency rooms without insurance. What's the
benefit? You get overheated, hit until your bones break, just what is
the benefit? To meet new people?

Would it also be a "risk" to walk out of a niteclub? What about when
you get hit over the head for a few dollars...would it be a "risk"
    then?

Would it be a "risk" to sit in your yard and watch the sun go down?
What about when you get bit by a mosquito after the countless warnings
and come down with "West Nile Virus", would it be a risk then?

All you folks talking about what we shouldn't treat because of risk
    should think about it.

I notice however that the largest one's amongst this group are seeming
to be the loudest about denying medical care to overweight people.
Next time you go for that BBQ or take in the extra piece of pie, think
about what you've been saying about how overweight people cause a
"strain" on the system and you don't like paying for them.

    Charles,

I must say that I'm pretty sick of seeing your writings of how we're
all lazy and a bunch of "commie".

It's real simple to say something like that as long as you're not out
busting a job somewhere. How about you get out of that cushy job
you've got and go trail behind me for a while sometime?

You wouldn't be able to hold up an hour working with me...nor your
"hard working illegal aliens". I've had several Mexicans who were
directly from Laredo...and a couple from Durango work with me who were
too slow and kept wanted to "rest". They didn't last. I don't know who
these "hard working illegal aliens" are that you keep talking about,
but they must be different than the "hard working legal aliens" that
    I've found...

LOL... A conversation with a dead person would scare the hell out of me..
<chuckle> I just got informed that John Edwards is a TV personality that has
a program in the afternoons.. Silly me.. I assumed the reference was to the
    Senator..

Anyway.. my association with "dead people" is limited to the "guardian
angels" who surround all of us.. Although they don't carry on conversations
with me, I am sure that their presence has made me safe on more than several
    occasions..

I've noticed that when I don't ride consistently, my eyes tend to tear a
bit, until I become accustomed to the wind.. I wear glasses and safety
glasses over them.. The Uvea safety glasses are tinted and afford good
protection from the sides.. At night the shields can be changed to a clear
lenses, for protection.. although I just remove them and never use anything
over my regular prescription, at night..

OMG! You are joking, right? You mean the completely left-wing
"documentary" that is a complete load of lies? The one that is so bad
even the leftists are having trouble swallowing it? That one?
    LOL

I'll see it, but more because I just want to see it.

I can understand separating the music types into sections because they
are so different from one another, as long as it's not just because
the artist is a certain color. I've got some really good latin music
by white guys that I would think should be in the latin section. I
wouldn't exclude them just because they are white. How is that not
    racist?

I do shop at Target, just not for music and stuff. I usually end up
buying CDs from CDWarehouse or Fry's. They tend to have better prices
and I tend to buy them in bulk. It's not often that I go for one or
    two. ;-)

    Doesn't everyone do that? ;-)

You make a good argument, and it's what I brought up previously - what
is acceptable risk? Apparently, in the eye of the public,
motorcycling while not wearing a helmet is not an acceptable risk that
the public feels it should have to pay for if there is long term care
involved due to a brain injury.
Yeah, I do think about it. Obesity and all of it's related illnesses
is the single largest strain on the medical system (no pun intended).
It WILL bankrupt the medical system in short time if we don't do
    something about it.

But I am not necessarily in favor of denying medical coverage to
people, I just think we need to figure something out.

Granted! But your bike has a big screen on front, too. I used to
have a bike with a screen like that and I could pretty much get by
without a face shield, too. Just my Oakley's were all I needed.

I'm talking about the bikes without any protection and the riders
without any glasses or goggles. Maybe you do eventually get used to
    it?

Typical damn republican.. I suppose you drive a Ford Pickup, also..
<grumble... grumble> You are welcome to ride to Arizona with us this month
... We plan to leave next weekend.. Since you canceled your trip to the east,
maybe you'd like to see the Grande Canyon and enjoy all the nice weather,
    out there..

hehe....I am NOT a republican, either....so there!!! nyaaaa (sticking

    And I drive a Dodge...not a Ford.

I won't be able to make a trek like that next weekend. My work stuff
already has me booked for just about the next two months. I have
on-site gigs and a bunch of certs they are wanting me to get so I will
be putting in a lot of study time. :-(

I'm really NOT happy about the way the whole vacation thing worked
    out.

In the eyes of much of the public, riding a motorcycle is not an "acceptable
risk".. with or without a helmet.. Those are the ones who might open a door
on you in traffic.. They might even cut you off when you are passing or some
other idiotic stunt to express their displeasure in motorcycles and/or
    bikers.

Then we have those so called bikers who rant and rave about everyone should
not only wear a helmet but insist that the helmet should be of a certain
quality or price range.. Those are the ones who keep talking about all the
horrors of motorcycle/auto collisions and the terrible costs of medical
care, etc.. They keep telling us that we are all simple minded for riding
without a helmet.. Those are the quote, unquote rookies who have only been
riding a short while.. They keep passing the stories of all their accidents
back and forth between them.. Some of us have been riding for more than 20
years without having any kind of accident.. requiring medical attention..
We'ver survived for all these years because of several different reasons..

First .. we learned how to survive on the highways and streets by riding
many miles and under many different conditions.. you name it and we been
    there..

Second.. most of us learned the hard way, because we wanted to ride and
embraced the feeling of elements and the freedom that all of us sense when
    we run..

Third.. the fellowship of the ones we ride with is important to us for the
kinship of our own independent motivation of spirit..

Without the sun, the wind and the elements of open highway and streets, we
might as well be driving a car, or pickup..

We ride our own motorcycles and it is acceptable to us for anyone else to
ride their own .. If we don't agree with the way they ride, we don't ride
    with them..

The smells.. the wind... the sun.. and the fleeting passage of the miles is
enjoyed to the fullest degree.. We are alive when we ride.. Nothing is
missed by any of our senses.. Wanna take any part of that away from any one
of us, then the battle will be long, hard and bitter..

Rave on Moron.. I am not a movie goer nor a movie downloader, but I went to
see Fahrenheit 911 today.. During the day, the crowd was not bad and the
prices were far below your quotes..

The employees at the AMC theater where we saw the film say that the crowds
are massive in the evening showings.. Conservative or Democrat, everyone
should see this film.. Whether you consider it a documentary op-ed, isn't
important.. It is a "movie". Dismissing this film as anything is your own
    loss..

The events projected on the screen are familiar to us all and we witnessed
most of it on our TV screens and newscasts as they unfolded.. There were no
great surprises for me, as I watched these events happen.. There were
details that I wasn't aware of and that is probably why Bush and his
administration try so hard to discredit the film.. and its producer..
    Michael Moore..

Moore doesn't make any bones about detesting George W.Bush.. So.. it should
not come as any surprise that the film is dedicating to exposing him to the
public.. Moore has also stated that he welcomes his film being pirated and
shown to as many as would like to see it.. He has stated that he welcomes
the film being displayed without profit..

When you have seen the film, personally.. please feel free to critique it
and discredit any parts of it that are untrue.. not unbiased.. because Moore
himself says it is a biased film..Until such time as you have seen this
movie, your opinion of it is as stupid as some of your other contributions
    on this newsgroup..

In other words, Albert.. until you know what you are talking about... STFU

You have asked and answered your own questions ..
    Again.. LOL
    ticket!

"Trash with a Capitol T" speaks with all the "wisdom" of his installing a
ten gallon gas tank on a Valkyrie.. I can certainly see the "wisdom" of your
being required to wear a helmet.. You obviously don't have the capacity to
determine for yourself.. The current legislation that is the "Helmet Law"
was negotiated to ensure the right for those who qualify to be exempt, to
    make their own choice..

Sadly.. those who are so weak minded, they cannot possibly make their own
decisions, were not considered.. The only consolation that any of us can
draw from all this, is that simple minded fools are not usually found
amongst the groups that actively participate in the legislative process..
Instead we find them on newsgroups .. Thank God for the small favors..
