[QUOTE] I'd be the best neighbor you ever had, because I'd respect and help look after your basic human liberties. Wow. Then move into the city and barricade yourself into a soundproof studio apartment. I'm consistently amazed when yuppies move into rural areas and then have the gall to become offended by blowing dust and the like. Here's a tip: DON'T EVER MOVE TO WEST TEXAS. LOL. You guys don't know what dust IS. Besides, your whole mentality smacks of a person who has no REAL problems to deal with. Spend a few months in Somalia or Haifa and maybe you'll start to realize what a pussy you're being. Because you're not the center of the fucking universe, and because living around other humans means putting up with their annoying noises and general presence. If your nerves are that fragile, buy your self some earplugs, a feather duster, and a lifetime supply of Zoloft, 'cause life won't be getting easier for you. Pot. Kettle. Black. I find it farcical that you preach so fervently against self-centeredness while in the same breath endorsing the infringement of others' freedoms for personal gain. Hypocrite. Ever heard of "disturbing the peace"? That is what you get charged with if you make too much noise in the city and enough neighbors complain. Nice try, though... This is a motorcycle news group. In other words, I ride, and I don't mind other riders that are reasonable, kind and considerate. Self centered assholes are something else entirely. If you were my neighbor and I had the habit of blazing around on my property with an unmuffled 4x4 at all hours of the day and night, within 50-100' of your house, I suspect that your "oh so tolerant" attitude would go right out the window. This is exactly what happened in my town. It wasn't just one incident between two neighbors. It was an ongoing issue between between quite a few different families and a whole lot of their neighbors. Reasonable requests from the neighbors to tone it down were met with the same "It's my property, I'll do whatever I like, whenever I like, go fuck yourself" that you seem to think is just fine. As it works out, the neighbors managed to get some fairly draconian noise regs passed. Score = Neighbors 1, assholes 0 If the assholes had been even slightly considerate of the neighbors, IE, no riding before 7:00am, no riding after 8:00pm, no excessively loud exhaust systems, etc, likely there wouldn't have been a problem. Basic consideration of others is a core value that seems to fallen out of fashion. Too bad the assholes never learned that one. Or at least they are learning it the hard way. I like riding dirt bikes. Now and then I get to ride a friends. I wasn't part of the group that pushed the noise regs through. I have pleasant and considerate neighbors. We watch each others animals when we go on vacation. We keep an eye on each others property when folks are out of town. We help each other out as needed. My neighbor that builds race cars doesn't start them up at 2:30 in the morning and drive them around. He waits until a reasonable hour, unless he has to be at a race. He'll call around and pass the word if he is likely to need to test late at night. He also gives beer and wine away to make up for disturbing us. Nice guy. No one has a problem with his occasional testing. He isn't an arrogant prick. I am sure that the dusty hellhole that is west texas has wide open ranches where you can go for miles on your own land and not bother anyone. In my town the properties range from 1/2 acre to 10 or so acres. Most are 2-5 acres. Far enough apart for reasonable people to be able coexist just fine. You have my sincere sympathy that you live in west texas. It must really suck. So bad that you have to read San Francisco Bay Area motorcycle newsgroups and dream that you could live here.
