Lost keys

Looks like I've lost the keys to the Ducati and the BMW.

Last had them when I took the bikes up the lockup to make room to work
on the VFR, which was back in September.

Unless I've left them in a bike up the lockup, which I'll try to check
    tomorrow, I'm assuming they're lost.

Obviously, I only had one of each - having lost the folding BMW key not
long after I bought it and only getting a single key for the Duke. (I
had a spare cut for the Duke, but it didn't work).

What's the best option for me now?

Fake a break in and burn the bikes. It's not as if it'd be the first
time someone's broken into your lock up so you'd probably get away
    with it.

Heh - the last time it was broken into it was by the plod - based on the
locals tipping them off - so I suspect this is a high risk strategy.

One by one throw every item in the house into the garden. At some
point during the process you will find keys in your hand.

(SteveH) gurgled happily, sounding much like they
    were saying:
    Get a time machine.
Go back a year or so.
Start to be fucking _organised_ in how you keep your keys.

This post brought to you by somebody who learnt this lesson the hard way.

Get a keysafe, bolt it to the wall from the inside and chuck all your
keys in it like wot I do.

Just don't lose the key to the safe ...

That's the thing - I *am* organised with them - they live in a fruitbowl
on the sideboard. That's why this is such a mystery - the lockup keys
are there, which usually means so are the bike keys.

The 75's keys are there, too - both sets.

The lesson is to always ensure you have 2 sets for everything.

Well, yes - that'd be a great suggestion when I have a full complement
    of keys.

Not a lot of help in suggesting what to do to get me out of the current
    situation.

I'm assuming ignition barrel removal will be a complete PITA, as there's
    no power at the lockups.

  11. If you don't find them in the lock-up (and they're probably there), then
remove the ignition barrels and take them to a locksmith.

thieves remove/break off the seat/helmet lock

A colleague locked his keys into his car. The AA bloke couldn't break in
without breaking a window. Colleague phone his wife who took the V5 to some
place in Cwmbran who made up a key to fit the car from the VIN. He didn't
need it coded at that point, just open the tailgate to get the original
key. Car was an 05 Renault Clio.

I've no idea who the firm was and don't work there any more. Can't be that
many places in Cwmbran yell.com should help.

    Is your Honda pre-HISS?

I removed the ignition barrel from my 7R with nothing more advanced than
a hammer, a cold chisel and a screwdriver.

Yeah, I did think of that - keys from the V5.
The Honda is in the garage here, with the Hongdou - I have keys for both
    of those.

It's looking increasingly like I've dropped them in one of the lockups.

  15. If the barrels have not been changed the main dealer may have the
infomation to generate you a new key , other than that change the
    barrels

Find them in the "safe place" you put them.

Is there a helmet holder lock on either using the same key? Those are
often easier to get off. I had to do that with GFR#1. Took it to 'Panic
Keys' near here - job done.

  17. Not at all. Plod make the perfect suspects, you know full well that no
**** will ever bother looking for them.

  18. There is a good chance they have been nicked. When plod came round to go
through the motions of taking my statement over the Spaztrakka he let slip
a few details one of which was that it is not unknown for a break in to
occur where only the car keys get stolen and a week or so later the car
    simply disappears off the drive.

Report a possible break in to plod.

So do mine (well apart from the sideboard bit). When they're not in the
bowl, it's because they're either in a pocket or seat lock.
