Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Dott.Ing.HatzOlah®, Nov 10, 2003.

  1. The WORLD'S fastest GP bike is up against a F104 Starfighter Jet, a drag
    race of sorts

This event will be on Nov.16th at a air base in Italy

Why ? Something to do i suppose

Flying? he didn't say anything about it flying. Presumably the "race"
distance will be in the order of less than half a runway length... enough
distance for the internal combustion engine to get up to speed without being
beaten by the jet. It's been done before with F1 and Indy cars v modern
fighter aircraft. **** this air base business.. lets see them race on the
    deck of an aircraft carrier.

Naaah - bugger that. Let's see them race around a track. Those F-104s
    really corner hard.

    It's been done.
I remember Mick Doohan or Wayne Gardner (not sure which) did it a few years
    back.

WG vs an F/A18 but he was on a road-bike ('87 VFR750) and he reckons he
    missed a gear.

Most of the world are still surprised to see the RAAF still using F-111's. Most air forces have
ditched them for new and improved aircraft. They were bloody surprised in some wargames a coupla
years ago when the Aussie F-111's scored quite a few kills against much newer, specialised
fighter-role type jets in air-to-air combat.

Pretty much. Alot of motoring TV shows like to do this every now and then. I have some video clips
here of a CART Champ car against an FA/18, a McLaren F1 roadcar against a Panavia Tornado, etc, etc.

Michael Schumacher in a Ferrari is going to be up against a Eurofighter in the next month or two.

    drag

What I can't wait for is when they have a drag race with a Harley against
the Ultralight. There is a fair comp ;P

    Well, it IS in Italy.....

Apparently, they've just upgraded their old Spitfires (WW2 RAF surplus)
    to Aermacchis.....
