looks like a two can (Scotchgard) week to me

Now entering my 4th week sans automobile.
http://moto-rama.com/images/3251byebye.jpg (proof that cars ARE dangerous!)
It wasn't too bad being a motorcycle commuter as long as I had the 325i
(RIP) to climb into on those furiously stormy days...
but now, it's real, and I have one eye on
    http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mtr/radar.php
and the other on my riding gear. (Aerostich roadcrafter, Sidi OnRoad
    Sympatex boots etc)
I do feel lucky though that I can travel over Skyline Blvd (Hwy 35) to
San Bruno rather than taking the always frantic 280 south out of SF on
those rainy days. Sometimes the fog can make the visiblilty less than
optimal on 35 but the absence of maniacal MFs with
cellphone-latte-laptop-croissants careening from lane to lane over on
the raceway (280 south) makes it the lesser of two weevils.
So I am thinking compact truck ...and have been doing comparisons of
Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger, and a couple of others, as my next cage.
I would really like to have a perfect world where I would not even own a
car, just use my wife's on rainy days. But alas she needs it for work on
a more or less regular basis, and can't work out a deal with her
employer to have home office on rainy days.
Any recommendations on wet weather vehicles (cars, trucks)?

I changed jobs (commercial electrician) recently and 'had' to have a
vehicle as I lost the shop van. We bought her a Toyota Solara so I could
use her truck to cart my mountain of tools from job to job.

Something small and fuel efficient would be my guess.

Pickup trucks are notoriously light on the back end. I'd look at a Super-oo.

Ahh! Brings back memories of my daily commute from Mountain View to SF
State on my CX500 in 1979-80.

  5. I used to commute on a CX500 from Berkeley to Milpitas (M-F) in 1984.
Could it have been the same bike? ;-)

Not unless you were sitting on the back behind me! :p
I finally totalled the poor thing into the back of a Toyota Camry that
suddenly pulled into my lane from a dead stop on Hwy 101 at Hellyer Ave
back in 1984. Lucky that I didn't get totalled as well! :)

I like those little Subaru Baja trucklings. I had a Brat for a while,
when I was into hang gliding, and the little 4x4 got me up some of the
gnarliest, washed out "roads" in San Diego! The bed was a wee bit too
short to sleep in, even for me, and the Baja doesn't look like they
increased the bed length at all.

  11. Ah, no, the bed hasn't gotten any bigger - more like the opposite.
You could at least fit some sort of bike in the back of a Brat - I
think all you'd fit in a Baja is a Honda 50..maybe.

Funniest thing I saw the other day was a Baja..with a cap over the
'bed'. Which would make it...a Legacy with a very clumsy cargo bay?
    People are funny.

If it was being driven by a midget, it would be called a "camper."
