I'm looking for a fuel valve, or a reapir kit for a 1976 Honda XL250. The
On/Off/Reserve control valve. (Fuel valve may not be the correct term)

    Thanks

That'll be the fuel tap then.
If you're in the UK, try www.davidsilverspares.co.uk . They are THE
stockists for Honda bits new and old.

What's up with yours? I may be able to offer some help/solution depending on
    the nature of the problem.

It leaks. First, just from the line that leads to the carburator. When not
in use, I used a clamp to stop the flow. Last week a mechanic said they
were easy enough to disassemble and clean and that the cleaning may stop the
leak. I removed, disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled the fuel tap. Now
it leaks from the black rubber circular "gasket". The one with the four
    holes in it.

I am in the US, but thanks for the info. I'll check out the web site.

I had exactly the same problem with the fuel tap for my XT500, which is
virtually the same as the XL250. You can either replace the rubber gasket or
do as I did and "help" the rubber gasket by adding a smidging of silicone
sealant or instant gasket, taking care not to block up the relevant holes.
Worked a treat for me and has been fine for about 6 months now.

    have fun

A word of caution, silicone sealant does not react well with gas and will
eventually turn to a jelly which could clog up your carb.

Replace the "gasket" with the 4 holes in it.
I've tried to make 'em out of cork. Didn't last.
If you can find gas-resistant rubber, you can
make one easily with a leather punch.
Or just take that wheelbarrow of money down to the
honda dealer and fork over 10 bucks for one.
I finally gave up and did just that.

Last thing you need is gas dripping on your garage
    floor next to the furnace.

Oh, clean the rust out of your tank so it doesn't mess
    up your new valve.
