    Hey all,

Im off to do my pre learners course in afew weeks. So im looking to buy a
bike that will see me through afew months or learning until im ready for a
nicer/bigger bike. I know you can get bigger than the 250 class these days
and that would be good as i am rather tall and of big build so any
suggestions would be very helpfull thanks. c0r.

Try the licensing authorities in your state. They should have a list of
larger motorcycles that are learner legal. Alternatively, talk to your
local motorcycle dealer and take advice from him. The power to weigh ratio
allowed for learner legal machines can be up to 150KW/tonne. Each state may
have its own formula for calculating the power to weight. This ratio will
give you a good selection of 500s and bigger.

It's large-ish. Certainly bigger than something like a GN250, but not
up there with a Kawasaki Eliminator[1]. Most dealers in Japanese
bikes should have a used one in stock, I'd suggest that you go out on
Saturday and sit on a few different machines and see what fits you.

And you should be able to get one under 2 years old in perfect
    condition for $5000.

Not in Adelaide you won't! Maybe if it's only 10 years old...

Yes Nev[1], At the moment. SA is rumoured to be implementing this
year - don't know about the other states.

    Johno
[1] Someone will probably reply that the ACT also run it - but that's
    not a state[2] ;))

[2] Although some say that it is in a hell of a state~

  16. ACS?

strictly speaking, the ACT isnt a state, so it really doesnt count.
