Apart from checking the net, what are good publications to check for
used UK bikes? (looking for a Honda ST1100/Pan European)

Follow Timo about. Anything he shows an interest in, walk away.

Pans hold their price remarkably well. You'll be very lucky to pick up a
    "bargain".

Spartanicus was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
Keep looking. The ones I found around London so far were either
    overpriced or minging or both.

That said, if you're after a real cheap one there is one near Ipswich
(check biketrader) and one in London (check BikeTrader again).

Alternatively you'll be looking at spending real money, because most
of the ones in the price range between 2.5k-4k appear to be more of a
    headache on wheels.

Heh. Good advice that. If you run a recovery service that is. You
should've seen the state of those I walked away from - they weren't
    pretty, to say the least.
