Looking for a new bike!

  1. K100RT/LT - does what a Pan will, but you can get at all the bits to fix it
without removing shedloads of plastic. Great spares availability and cheap
    as chips, mostly.

    for example.

    Funny that - in a different world, where Windows-based PC's weren't dominant
and keeping all the attention, I wonder
whether Apple would actually get away with that?

After all, it's not very fair or competitive is it? They can charge whatever
they want to because there isn't choice.

You can bet that if MS were to release their own spec PC, that there would
be some sort of nerd riot over the injustice of it all.

    Life's a bitch.

Still this time next year 2900 will be worth about well damn near to
    2900 in today's purchasing power.

I'd say that means purchasing a top end PC probably isn't the wisest use
of capital. But that's just me.

    lets hope so.
no, it's me too. All I use my home PCs for are general Internet use,
wordprocessing, running a couple of CMSs, some database stuff, media
playing etc... My PIII-800, PII-450 and PII-233 are more than up to
    it.

I *always* buy low end processors that are a generation old.. right now
a 1.8GHZ Duron available for £30 is my pick for a cheap pc..

Maybe Apple are looking to their own history... the (design and) build it
yerself in yer garage type phenomenon :)

    Go they do...
    I know that :).

Well, the K-series heavily borrowed from car technology as you know,
and they just keep going with fairly minimal attention - basically,
you service them as per schedule and they keep going unless you hit
    some immovable object or other.

The old R-series is based on a late '60s design which in turn is based
on a '30s design. They do need more attention, more fettling if you
will, but are easier to work on. The R100 engine really is a bit
overstretched as witnessed by the oil leaks on the barrels, it needs
an oil cooler (I'd recommend a thermostatically controlled one) and
it's quite lumpy at low revs. Plus, a lot of them have been worked by
complete muppets and there are a few gotchas that can cost you a new
    engine...

OTOH they are far easier to service at home, plus parts are dirt
    cheap.

Late mono airheads address most of these issues though, dunnit.
I haven't heard of one actually wearing out yet in fact?

I've got both and the VFR is just as good but cheaper than the Pan to
buy. The protection from the elements is pretty good........in fact
you can have mine for £800 .....its got heated grips and everything
and I need to sell it as I am going abroad. I have never had my
    Honda's let me down
