What the **** are you on about? There's the three suzukis being
discussed here and at least one Kawasaki (2 if the zx636r is still
made) . You've probably whooshed me and a lot of other people here
with some bizarre old bike thing, but that's not 'cos you're clever,
but 'cos you're old.

tyres, the scrub them in on the way to Avebury.

What time are other people planning to be there?

 

I'll probably get there 6.30ish. I would say call me when you arrive,
but it wouldn't do much good as my mobile only works there if I stand
at the far end of the carpark, facing West, with a finger in my ear &
one leg wrapped around my neck. So instead look out for the MV up by
the burger stand - I'll be somewhere nearby.

Will you be on the Z or the Tig?

Just to veer off topic slightly...

I, soon I hope, will be buying another bike.

In my position, with my history, what bike would people buy?
Passed DAS
Bought GSX750F
+6 months bought ZZR1100
+6 months bought ZX9R
+9 months bang.

+3 months bought XVR750

So I've got approx 2 years biking under my belt, with a 3.5 year gap
off bikes.

I lowsided the AT due to me forgetting what bike I was on and thinking
it could go round bends like the 9R.

Do I go for another 9R or something like SV650 which will force me to
ride slower, or ZRX1200/GSX1400 style?

No, I ain't getting a Gixxer Thou, just not, ok? I know I'll die on one.

I know I'll have to relearn a lot, and will be doing some sort of
advanced riding course, but am worried if I get a 9R I'll ride it way
beyond my current abilities and stuff it.

At the moment I'm leaning towards a Bandit 12/ZRX/GSX1400 style bike,
enough power for fun but with my height it'll restrict my top speed.

What do the FOAK think, apart from "Catch a bloody bus"?

(everything of course depends on how much knee can be made to bend, but
I'm confident it'll be fine after some physio 'persuasion')

Seeing as the weather is superb I suspect it will be rammed... just where is
the 'overflow'[1] parking when the pub carpark is full?

Or is it a case of whereever and look out for the plod?

An SV won't force you to ride slower - they're quite capable of 120mph.

The two accidents I've had have all been at < 40mph. ;-)

THat said, Bandit 1200 might be good, or possibly naked SV1000?

 

Why anyone believes this sort of nonsense is beyond me. Sure, it _can_
go fast, but it's probably the easiest to ride, most forgiving, least
threatening bike I've ever ridden.

But you knew that - you're just in denial, like so many others have
been until they saw the light. Of the current crop of ukrm gixxer
owners, at least three have been through a 'no way I'm getting one of
those' phase - you'll soon be joiing them, I reckon.

I think that's quite likely on a 9R, yes, which is why something more
like the gixxer would be so much better. But for a while you're going
to struggle with the riding position on any sprotsbike, aren't you?

Maybe not such a bad idea, but you should be relying on your brain and
right hand, not your bulk, to regulate speed. These bikes are also
more of a handful to get round corners; as several owners will testify
they're not neccessarily the ideal tools to improve your riding on.

Something large, powerful enough, good handling, fun. Hmm...

....new Speed Trip, I reckon.
