Well, that was interesting, to me anyway.

Really surprised me that KTM pulled out sponsorship wise, seems a bit silly
    publicity wise I'd say?

And, was it just me or was the Russian bird that was trying to put them off
going through Kasakstan or wherever, the third Cheeky Girl?

Me too, very watchable. Looks like there's some fun adventures in the
coming weeks. I'm glad I made a point of not following the trip in the
    press.
Maybe not as bad as the publicity if the bikes had kept breaking down.

Riding a KTM round the world is good publicity

Failing to get round the world riding a KTM is bad publicity, whatever
the reason. They sent in their expert, he thought their approach was
    flawed, so they pulled out.

Not the best decision with hindsight, but such is life. At least the KTM
hasn't gained a reputation for breaking its frame rails

I liked Mondo Enduro (on one of the Freeview cable channels) bunch of
British chaps round the world on Yamahas. Varying degrees of pain,
enjoyment, lack of money, alcohol, etc etc.

I particularly liked the trans Siberia section - all those red and white
    UHF aerials. <happy sigh>

Wise move from KTM, the V twins would never have made it, even with
several thousand pounds worth of snap on gear to support them.

Incidentally an acquaintance of mine left on a RTW trip a few weeks
ago, & you can follow her travels on
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cmmRTW/. It's worth going back to the
start of the messages & reading all her postings (the ones from Cynthia
    Milton) if you've got time.

She had to send the bike by train across most of Russia as she couldn't
get a long enough visa. She is however doing the full trip up through
    S. America, N. America, Canada & Africa, unlike Ewan.

One for Lozzo; she had a newish 1200GS & a 20+ year old 80/GS in her
garage to choose from. Guess which one the BMW RTW experts told her to
    use...

The 1980 GS, without a doubt. BMW have had a lot of problems with the
1200 range, I can't see them recommending she take one of those.
