Watch out for the cheap Chinese-made bike - worth a laugh. Not sure
about the bridging of cultural divides, though ...

They did it alright, but man they took a whole lot of extra shit they really
didn't need. I got sick of them complaining about how heavy the bike was
with all the gear on it. If they had of actually thought it through and
packed lightweight gear and cut some of the useless shit they'd be in far
better shape to deal with the roads they had to go through.

Of course, we all travel with GPS, Satellite phones, support vehicles, a
film crew, someone to handle necessary paperwork and a doctor. Don't we?...

Let's not forget iPods and the flashest brand-new bikes money can buy!

I wouldn't have let that doctor anywhere near me. Seems as though most
of the time *he* was the patient.

Not a large support team, and not a constant support team, and
regardless how much help they had I still envy them as much as if they'd
had none. I'm sure they've inspired countless riders who've read the
book or watched the series to actually start seriously thinking about
such a trip. I know after I read each chapter in the book and watched
each episode on the DVD I got out maps and started planning the places
I'd go and the path I'd take. They've also done what noone else has
really done before them by bringing adventure riding to the mainstream
public and giving them a riding experience on a much wider scale than
was possible screening Alby Mangels home movies in the local town hall.

Don't forget the pda with the several hundred ebooks and 20 or 30 cards
    worth of shrunk movies!

Give me Alby Mangels' World Safari or the world trip by Peter "Bear"
Thoeming or Dave Barr's world travels anyday. They didn't need
babysitters. Christ, Dave Barr didn't even need legs.

As far as I'm aware they still rode all that way themselves. Pretty damn
good for a bunch of amatuers who planned it all in under 6 months.
