I'll try and get herself to watch it, then.

It has been decreed that we are touring NZ by bike in early 2006.[1]

My suggestion of going overland[2] to get there has been dismissed out
    of hand.

    <sulk>

[1] Plenty of time to save up, see.
[2] Yes, I know I'll need to pump up the tyres for the wet bits.

Yes, it's very enjoyable. Even more adventure than a bike of the same name.

It was an excellent series, although I thought the last epsiode was a
    bit rushed.

Yes, and read the book to get the full picture of the trip.
Bang the book on as well.

I'm surprised there wasn't another one. The book finishes up in
London and I was expecting that.

Indeed. I was a bit disappointed in it, tbh.

I noticed, however that they crossed from Can/USA at Roosville, just
    like I did.

What a godforsaken shithole of a place that is.

Yes, seemed silly to use only one episode to cover a full third of the
    journey distance.
    Can't say I've been there ;-)

Since 99% of what we see on our screens is all about North America
    anyway, I didn't feel deprived.

I'd imagine that, other than Ewan being rear-ended (fnaar!), there
probably wasn't that much in the way of exciting challenges compared to
the Eastern European sections. Either that or they've saved all that
NEVER SEEN BEFORE! footage for the DVD.

Aye, but they didn't even seem to try and make anything of it, there was
so much they could have gone and seen.

Whatever you think of the Merkin people, the country itself is full of
    places of interest to see.

....does not find it's way into my chrimbo swag I will be most
upset. I have missed two esipodes and in some respects I'm rather
pleased as I have footage to look forward to.

One of the best bits is early on where Ewan McG gets to choose
when a Soviet gentleman offers to play either a guitar or a
    kalashnikov. Top stuff. :)

Exactly. That last episode was kind of 'oh yes, and here's America',
just tagged on at the end.

    [snip]

A most enjoyable trip you will have, the roads on the south island are
very quiet and twisty. The lonely planet guide for NZ is excellent and
    well worth getting.

    I can thouroughly recommend a number of hostels/camp sites/hotels/sites
    if you're interested.

There was that too I guess.

Perhaps in hindsight it might have been better planned out. Still the
chap at KTM did try and tell them ;-)
