As opposed to the un-wooded kind?
Oh, right. Thing is, as I said before, there were quite a few bits
that meet that description, including the inane grins were wearing by
the time we stopped. Maybe this was just one of those where you were
more 'on-it' than the rest of the time.

  2. My VFR 800 had a choke on it - apparently pulling it out just signalled
to the FI to use a slightly richer mixture. Or so the tame
mechanic-monkey who used to service it told me..

  4. Corners were where I was losing out - if I tried to use engine braking
the engine would just die which meant I had to be creative with the
clutch, brake and throttle during the entry into the corner. Once in
the corner it wasn't a problem because the throttle was open..

Add together all the 1/2 a second that I was losing per corner over the
lifespan of a lots-of-twisties-all-together roads and I was lagging
    badly.

  5. Ah - mine was set up by.. whoever had had it before me. And possibly by
a mechanic at the bike shop in Newbury where I got it.
Indeed. Especially as the blade had a nice open Remus end-can on it.
    And did good KS backfires..
I have plenty more where that came from..

The problem is, how does the prospective purchaser know that, if they
    don't know the seller?

If there's no professional service history either?

The bike may be perfect, if may look perfect, but you just can't be
sure. And it's often a lot of money to risk getting it wrong.

The problem is, even with the non-mechanically-clueless, non essential
bits regularly get left, so even a competent spannerers bike can become
    a shed.

On mine, thankfully, it's quite new, and all the important bits work
    well.

On my cars, however, there's a host on 'non essential services' e.g.
windows, radio, etc, that aren't functioning optimally ;-)

Be grateful it's not your front lawn.

A surprisingly low amount of the stuff was consumed, but considering
that the only time we have met I declined your offer of a coffee, it
would have been a pleasant idea.

But some do. Like the VFR800 (although I don't know if this is still
    true on the VTEC model).

    New Forest?

ISTR "forest" referring to Royal Hunting Grounds, rather than big
woods. That was in Ingerlund, though, not Furrinland.

Gertrude may look old-fashioned, but her FI has:

    Air temperature sensor
    Air pressure sensor
    Water temperature sensor

    but:

no lambda sensor, it's an open-loop system

    I think it depends on the FI system. The TL does measure pressure;
IIRC my old BMW didn't: if you lived somewhere high, like say Colorado
then there was apparently a plug you fitted permanently that told the
FI that it was running at high altitude.

The Quota does have an absolute pressure sensor, though it measures
the pressure under a side panel rather than in the air intake - heaven
knows what effect airflow does to the readings, though I suppose the
    ROM map could compensate.

Also, of all the bikes I've owned, only the BMW actually physically
measured airflow, though airspeed rather that mass flow.

Bullshit. It takes 2 weeks and no effort at all to make a bike look
decidedly second hand without actually crashing it.
