I've got to go to Margaret St. W1 (just off Cavendish Square) next
week. Anyone know if there's bike parking around there, & whether I'm
likely to get a space at 10am?

  2. I'd recommend the Cavendish Square car park. NCP, secure and has bike
spaces, AFAIK. There's lots of on street bike parking in the area, and
London is definitely quieter at the moment, so you ought to be OK.

I knew there was another one, I just found the other one first.
True, you'll need local people with local knowledge for that,
although I suspect that as Ali said, it's August and it'll be
    quieter than non-holiday times.

  8. I got from near Brent Cross to Hyde Park Corner in just over twenty minutes
yesterday - in a cage, in what normally passes for the rush hour. And that
was going pretty well straight down the A5, which I wouldn't normally dream
of doing. The only pants bit is around the Marylebone flyover, which has
extensive road works. Car parks were very quiet, and there were *loads* of
    meters round Victoria. It's quiet!

Unbelievably it's actually started to grow on me. I might even leave it
    that colour...

Heh, possibly. Partly practical reasons too. I'll be clearing the
garage out this weekend ready to get the Corvette in there to restore,
& I'll barely have space to store the bikes never mind do any work on
    them.

I could really do with finding an alternative home for the Fantic,
trailer, spare Jeep wheels & roofbox for the winter, so if you know
anyone with some spare garage space...

London is very quiet this week and there are for example
bike spaces in St James's Square at 10am today.

I don't know when the hordes come back?

In general though it is always pretty packed at 10am.

    What day are you travelling?

I could check it out one day if you liked unless
you are travelling on Tuesday (or Monday:).

This week, I've run and cycled [1] passed the the Cavendish bike park
almost on a daily basis at about 9 - 9.15am. On average I've seen one
or two bike spaces free though they are not always very big.

IME this is a rather busy bike park and you'd be advised to get there
sooner rather than later, especially as folk are beginning to return
    from their hols.

There are some other bike parks nearby which you'll see on the maps but
the one way systems in the area can make it tricky to find your way
around. I still end up going round in circles!

If you can get there 9am - 9.30am you'd probably find it easier to find
a space, then you could go and grab a coffee somewhere if you're too
early. That said, how long is a piece of string?

[1] yes, I've another mad long run starting 2nd Sept so the CBR is
feeling rather undervalued at the moment.

Could be handy to know if it doesn't put you out of your way. I'm going
    Wednesday.

  15. I'd offer mine but that would result in my slow and agonising death[1]..

And besides which if I did put anything else in there I wouldn't be
able to use the turntable for turning my bike round in the garage -
which is kind of full already.

    Phil.

[1] Well - actually it wouldn't - but it would result in a week of the
    'hurt silence' treatment.

    HAH.

    You are having a giraffe.

Someone broke down on the A4 this morning at Hammersmith, then some
tool parked over the box junction at the same traffic lights. The
    resulting tailback was rather impressive.

I've not heard horn honking like it since I was in Rome...

Hmm, could be a problem then as the Tiger isn't exactly narrow.
Presumably the NCP doesn't fill up though? I don't mind how much it
costs as I won't be paying.
I was hoping to avoid rush hour - & getting up early.
I think your brain must be borked.
    As is your sig sep.

  18. It's massive, that NCP. I've never had a problem getting in there, even
pre-congestion charge or at Christmas. Probably safer than on street, too.

  19. Hey, I can't predict dickwittedness. Was there a box junction camera, I do
    hope?
I can imagine. Ammersmif isn't great at the best of times.

You have to get up at the crack of a sparrows fart to get a space in
    London.
