No idea. I don't do groups other than this, the alfa one and the shed.

  2. Nah, he's straight. There was some plonker on upce, Spacker acolyte,
who tried stirring things up by sending an email to SteveH and stupidly
using a monicker he'd used on some web forum.

Turned out to be a lawnmower salesman. He went strangely quiet after his
    details were Googled....

And right on cure, someone's emailed me to say it's actually got a
late R80 seat cobbled onto it, and they don't fit properly because of
    the different frame rails.

Gets worse all the time, really.

Excactly what did you stick on, only cylinders/pistons, or also R100
heads/40 mm exhausts/R100 carbs? ISTR that one of the aftermarket 1000cc
providers[1] claimed that exchanging only standard cylinders & pistons
may lower the performance, but that may just be to promote their own
    performance kits.

I put on cylinders+pistons and heads from the same age R100 (late 70s).
Along with the box of spares came a set of carbs but those I didn't fit
    until later.
Results were impressive from the off - probably ten more horses with the
R80 carbs, and possibly another ten with the R100 carbs.
Oddly, fuel consumption dropped 10mpg along the way, pointing up that
the orginal breathing was sub-optimal and that the tradeoff of power for
economy was alive and well if you don't hammer it.[/QUOTE]

OK result then, including acceleration since the final drive R80 ratio
remained. But in one way it is not making an R80 go faster; rather
abandoning it and converting it into a low-geared R100 :)

WRT fuel consumption, are you sure your R80 carbs were set up properly?
My R80 does easily 55 mpg when cruising at motorway speeds.
