    Just looking at your pictures.

Bags of awareness is superb! What planning went into that? Did you
see the guy sitting there then get the idea and wait for someone to
    walk past?

How did you keep the colour in the bubbles on Rebecca, Bubbling?
Probably dead easy but I haven't a clue. I'd like to try and get some
pictures like that of my kids.

Cheers Daz, it's always nice to know that folk appreciate.

It was taken for a round of a BBC competition themed "Street Life". I
went into Nottingham on a busy Saturday morning looking for beggars
and could I find any? After searching the whole city centre I
eventually found just this one. I asked him if I could take some
pictures of him, for a small fee[1], and he said yes. So I went over
the road, lay down on the pavement (to get the low perspective) and
    clicked away.

I had in mind the sort of "blurred-people-framing" shot I wanted and
the low perspective but envisaged the framing to be made of two or
more people. I saw the woman with the bags, timed it nicely and just
    got lucky.

It didn't get selected for the voting round of the competition (BBC
    Photographer of the Year
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/3383611.stm).
Aye, as Buzby says, it's Photoshopped, and really simple too. But it's
not a great photo in full colour. Trust me, it looks distinctly
    average.

For this effect, make a new adjustment layer, (Hue & Saturation...),
set the saturation to 0. Select the layer mask and with the brush
tool, remove the desaturated effect for the bubbles only. Hey Presto,
    coloured bubbles.

[1] A couple of quids worth of food and drink.

Cheers, I'll give it a go.

Do you ever read Motorcycle Racer mag? There are always some
excellent photos in there. Much beter than the trash you get in the
"popular" bike mags. They really capture the atmosphere and get you
thinking about the different messages the photo conveys. I suppose at
the end of the day that's what photography is all about.

Too true - it's the best bike mag there is.

My step-dad used to do club races in the '80's at Darley Moor, Long
Marston etc. and I remember reading something sounding like it[1] in
the paddocks awaiting his imminent return.

[1] Not entirely sure if it was the same one, it *was* 20 years ago.
I'll pick up a copy to see what you're on about.

The "best bike mag there is" is Superbike from circa 1980
with the poster of the young lady standing next to a MHR.
What did I do with my copy?

Why Northern? It's surely general gallic thing and I'll claim my Scots
    heritage on this one.
