K Olley was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
They certainly do - I see a lot of the newer buses in London with LED
    rear lights.

  2. ****; I remember having to make small blocks of steel perfectly cubical
to within a few thou using only a file.
    No it fucking wasn't.

I only hope he gets caught with them then.

Lights for a purpose I agree with But lights for lights sake or lights
    modified without reason no.

A friend of mine is very keen on the use of LED's for brakelights, the
main reason is the decreased time it takes between the moment the
brake is activated and the time the LED's illuminate, about 0.2 of a
second, it may not sound a lot but at times parts of a second can
count, and in his job he sees the results this can cause.

No, he has to get there even earlier than that, police traffic
accident investigator, small specalised unit[1] that only get out from
behind their desks for serious incidents, expected fatality a minimum
    requirement:)

[1] it was one of his co-workers that oversaw my accident.

Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Grimly Curmudgeon
You'd have enjoyed a model engineering show I was at a while back then.
There was a steel cube, square and accurate to a *tenth* of a thou, made
    by hand.

Made me want to give up on the spot, it did...

The interesing part is the electronics that are used to control
virtually everything, they have done away with the wiring loom and
replaced almost all of it with just 2 wires, all it needs is a few
years field testing and if it all goes OK we should see the system
    being used in all vehicles.

The down side is that every individual electrical fitting needs the
inbuilt electronics to make them work which will increase the cost of
parts, but total costs to the manufacturers will be offset by the
decreased cost of the loom and the fitment of it.

  11. When I was a toolmaker it was common practice to file down to five thou
accuracy. about the width of the lines on a good steel rule...

If the lights were in addition to his sidelights then it would be just
    sad.

As they are instead of if he wants to go cruising up and down the
    Thames then no problem.

But under the wrong lighting conditions an incorrect combination of
lights might be misinterpreted by another road user just long enough
to be a contributary factor in an RTA.

As for loud exhausts and incorrect plates, if he wishes to do so then
thats his choise, but neither are modifications whether done to bike
or car that are liable to be contributary factors in causing an RTA.

Yep, most do, as long as while he is going through that phase he does
not manage to upset the lives of othes.
Yep, my mental state stinks, and at times its getting worse.

Perhaps I should have let them screw the lid down after fiesta boy
finnished with me, it would have prevented a lot of problems.

I'd struggle with that. I can, however, position a hole to a thou on a
    standard bench drill.

And hopefully pointing out their lack of observation as well,
allthough this does not seem to amount to much according to our
    courts.
A nicking would probably be dependent on his and the coppers attitude,
a rectification notice would hopefully be the more likely option
unless there was other factors to consider.

  15. If I'd been able, I'd have done just that. Eyes in the back of his head,
    that bastard had.
Not nasty, just mind-numbingly boring. I've always enjoyed working with
steel, but that particular session nearly made me fall asleep.

A bunch of 16/17yo. lads would rather be setting fire to each others'
clothing or trying to see up the secretaries skirts.

  16. That was actually part of a long course run for all British Steel young
    lads.
I was a trainee metallurgist at the time - until I had my first big bike
smash and lost nearly two years.

I went into an engineering apprenticeship after that and had the good
fortune to work with an amazing guy who used to repair Merlins during
the Battle of Britain. A crusty old bastard, but I learned a lot from
    him.
I'll say one thing about those fucking blocks of steel - they taught me
    how to use a file.
