I refer you to the DSA driving manual statements I posted elsewhere to
    this thread.

As long as you are 'correct' as per the DSA manual then you should
pass. It's the DSA manual for the DSA test.

I find that a rather alarming approach, and the lack of knowledge of
the examiner to be very scary. I'd suggest reporting him to the
appropriate agency because he really should be prevented from
    examining...

The DSA manual agrees with your DAS peeper.

A shoulder check and a lifesaver are different things. But don't tell
    Auvache.

I think the question that needs to be asked is did the learner in
question do a shoulder check in the car, or a lifesaver in the car?

I took the Maltese driving test in 1980[1], a year after passing my UK
one because I wanted a 'spare' foreign licence in case I got banned over
here. I don't think it mattered if I used the mirror[2] on the 1 1/2
mile drive that I did in a Maltese Govt Morris Minor. As long as the car
came back under its own power you'd passed.

[1] The test is worthy of a whole story in itself.
[2] Both wing mirrors were smashed, only the internal one was intact.

Who really gives a **** what it's called. Lifesaver? Shoulder check? 2lb
of red onions? It makes no fucking difference.

I thought I'd do fine with no roof, doors or A frame and windscreen on
a Landrover but I need to stand up on the seat and look behind to get
the best view when reversing. Joining the motorway tends to have them
    swerving away from me though.

    All the best

  14. all interesting stuff, but in the case quoted (assuming we have accurate
info at 4th hand or whatever) the examiner is quoted as saying you should
never need to use anything other than the mirrors.
