Both - up to, say, the time Lindsey Buckingham left.

I liked it but also for tribal reasons.
Hmm... well Never Mind The Bollocks does as do the first Clash album
and London Calling. I also think a lot of the Buzzcocks stuff still
    works.

Beyond that, well... some of the Damned singles still sound good.

Some of the XRay Spex lyrics were a long way before their time and
whilst I can (and do) listen to it I think a lot of that is down to
    nostalgia rather than anything else.

Am sure I've missed a lot out here.

Mostly, I do have the very occasional pint or two, but no more. Two
pints of piss-weak lager and I am pretty much arseholed nowadays.

I'm a child of the 60's and never really heard much punk, but what I
did, sucked. But for some cosmic reason, I've been inundated with Brit
culture lately. Keith Richard's book, the movies Green Street, A
Complete History of My Sexual Failures, and The 24 Hour Party People,
among others. T24HPP was a revelation about punk music. I hated Sid
and Nancy, but Party People at least gave punk context. And compared
to rap and most hip hop, punk is great.

I'm not sure 24 Hour Party People gives a good context to punk as
such. To be honest Joy Division were never 'punk' in any case, they
    were 'New Wave'.

24HPP gives some good background to Factory Records and Joy Division
and (I think from memory) it briefly covers some of the Buzzcocks
history but beyond that not much. It explains what was going on in
Manchester but not what was going on in the South East which was more
important. Well, important in that the Sex Pistols, Clash, Siouxsie
and the Banshees etc. were from that part of the country.

Fair enough. By context, I meant more the social, political, emotional
background. I'd heard of Joy Division, but never their music, and knew
nothing of their background. A friend turned me on to New Order, and
some of their stuff sounded good, but I had no idea where they fit in.
Also, I was never sure how much of the movie was fact and how much
fiction, which added to its value, I think.

finger nails all still present and correct!
