Seeing as the ZX is off getting its fairings replaced, and I'm now on
holiday for 3 weeks, and as I've broken my girlfriend we can't go away
anywhere I decided to start tinkering/sorting the R80RS Mono out.

After a day of tinkering the brakes are now working again, new battery,
carbs dismantled, cleaned and reassembled. It now ticks over sweet as a nut.

Next is to give it an all round fluids change as they're some 9 years old!

However, couldn't resist taking it for a ride. At 50 hp it's obviously MUCH
more sedate than the ZX or the KGT but quite pleasant in its own little way
    :)

It's got a mere 24000 miles on it and I've known its entire history (it used
to be my uncles). Condition is remarkably good for a bike built in 1987.

It's been a long time since I spent a day tinkering like this and I'd almost
forgotten how therapeutic spanner twirling can be :)

SWMBO may be a bit pissed off as I "purloined" her nail polish remover to
clean the carb internals with :)

Can do, but that's lashing out big bucks for something that could prove
to be simple and cheap to fix

  8. Every dealer I've encountered has a "no refund on electrical parts"
    policy.

I know it probably runs counter to the law, but it's there because (a)
Some people have a nasty habit of taking the fried bit back to the
dealer for a refund, saying it doesn't work, and (b) it's quite possible
to fry the new replacement component due to a fault elsewhere in the
loom (like the one that fried the original unit). And people then revert
    to (a).

    Chuck it at a dealer.

I *hate* electrical faults with a passion, and I should understand
    this stuff.

Unfortunately I think you're all correct.
Nothing for it (given the time constraints) but to throw money at the
    problem!

If you get really stuck, I'll find out whether it's your altenator or
reg-rec (or something else completely?) quick enough (me not knowing shit
    about your problem of course).
You know where I am. I've got the diagnostics kit all here at home anyway.

  12. Ah, right. A lot of dealers want pre-payment on ordered-in parts....

Champ will know better than me on this one but I suspect that the
majority of people will have more important bikes to be working on
    than yours.

Slick *might* do it if he had nothing else to do but he's usually run
ragged over the race fortnight and when he isn't working on race bikes
    he's either sleeping or pissed.

AS you say - he'll be busy on race bikes for the MGP.
The problem with that is that Bear wants thing *for* the MGP - if he
books it in to a dealer on the IoM, he'll be without a bike while they
work on it. And they'll prolly have to order the parts in.
